5 Best LGBTQ+ Games To Play During Pride Month

With the arrival of June 2026, we enter Pride Montha period designed to celebrate LGBTQ+ representation and its history. Although still relatively uncommon, video games incorporating gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, or trans characters no longer feel like outliers, which is a positive step forward. Plenty of titles let players define their characters' gender, sexuality, and more without restrictions, while others actively explore same-sex or polyamorous romances.

As Pride Month gets underway, let's highlight a few of the most iconic games ever synonymous with the LGBTQ+ community, even if they might not specifically explore the protagonist's sexuality and identity as major plot points. These are all big games that most people have probably played, but they definitely warrant a replay.

Baldur's Gate 3

The Freedom To Create, Love, And Sleep With Whoever You Want

Baldur's Gate 3 requires a mention simply due to being one of the biggest RPGs of the 2020s, ergo making it one of the biggest LGBTQ+ games of the decade. Although not fully open-world, Larian crafted the ultimate sandbox experience that lets players carve their own identities, which naturally involves giving them the freedom to decide who they love and lust after. BG3 hits a fantastic middle ground in its representation by nothing pushing it to the forefront or relegating it to a side quest; well, gay romance is, well, romance. Larian's approach is 100% normalization, allowing characters to express their sexuality without being defined by it.

Beyond having the freedom to love and bed whoever you want, BG3 lets players create trans or non-binary characters if they want. The creator separates the character's appearance from pronouns or voices, rather than forcing one to be tied to the other, and this mentality extends to their sexual anatomy and physical traits. Your characters can mix-and-match hairstyles, facial hair, makeup, etc., without restrictions.

Celeste

The Definitive Trans Game Masterpiece

Celeste tells the most beautiful transgender allegory in not only gaming but also modern media. If somebody were to ignore the story or subtext, they would find a fantastic precision platformer about a woman, Madeline, trying to climb a seemingly impossible mountain, along with a game that succeeds at being both punishing and fair. However, a glance beneath the surface reveals a powerful metaphor that reflects Madeline's anxiety, depression, and fractured self-identity, the latter of which manifested through the presence of her alter ego, Badeline. This journey struck a chord with plenty of LGBTQ+ players who could relate to Madeline's struggles and fears.

In a Medium essay, Maddy Thorson, Celeste's creator, confirmed that Madeline is trans, along with connecting the character's journey with her own. The “Farewell” DLC also further cemented Madeline's story and trans status, turning what was subtext into just plain text. The game's trans identity isn't just limited to the writing, as Celeste also features a breathtaking, universally acclaimed synth-pop soundtrack composed entirely by Lena Raine, a trans woman who channeled her own experiences with anxiety directly into the project's musical DNA.

Hades

The Definitive Bisexual and Polyamorous Game Masterpiece

Hades

Released

September 17, 2020

Both Hades and its sequel fit this topic wholeheartedly, but the latter's relatively recent release makes me reluctant to attach the “iconic” label for now. However, Hades is a clear-cut masterpiece that embraces bisexuality and polyamorous relationships, two aspects of LGBTQ+ that don't feature in fiction all that often. Unlike BG3, which lets players decide, Hades takes a far more overt approach in defining its characters' sexuality. Even though Greek mythology is openly queer, modern interpretations don't often underline this aspect; however, Hades leans unapologetically into it.

Games-With-Inclusive-LGBTQ+-Romance-Options

Games With Inclusive LGBTQ+ Romance Options

Games have been getting more inclusive with romance options over the years. These titles are some of the best for LGBTQ+ romance.

Canonically bi, Zagreus can date both Megaera and Thanatos at the same time, developing a polyamorous relationship built on trust and respect. This path doesn't lead to ultimatums or comedic punchlines, but rather a healthy endpoint for all three characters. Beyond Zagreus' story, Hades features a deeply moving, central side-quest dedicated to reuniting the legendary Trojan War heroes Achilles and Patroclus.

Personally, Hades' representation of bisexuality took me entirely by surprise, as I hadn't seen any other game present such a refreshing example.

The Sims, In General

25 Years Of Representation

I picked The Sims 4 since it's the game that most people play in 2026, but this entry covers the entire series. Since the very beginning, The Sims has always quietly allowed same-sex households, turning the franchise's universe into a haven for those who want an escape from reality.

In the first few games, representation felt like a happy accident born out of the life sim's commitment to absolute player freedom, but Maxis gradually implemented changes that showed a true dedication. Gender boundaries were removed from Create-a-Sim, allowing everyone to pick from any voice type, clothing style, hairstyle, walking animation, etc., without restrictions. The Sims 4 eventually added pronoun customization as well, along with redefining attraction so that characters could have more defined boundaries.

The Last Of Us Part 2

Lesbian Romance At The Forefront

Divisive as it might be, The Last of Us Part 2 is comfortably one of the most recognizable games with LGBTQ+ representation, and Naughty Dog handles Ellie and Dina's dynamic really well. Rather than just spotlighting the beautiful moments, the game presents this relationship in all its raw realism, highlighting the messy emotions that arise from Ellie's obsessive journey. Although not the focus, Ellie's sexuality and experiences shape her identity, capacity for love, and perspective. LOU2 also introduces Lev, a transgender character with a very complicated upbringing and story. Although he becomes a warrior to avoid being forced to marry an Elder, his body dysmorphia dates far back and drove their transition.

Also, I cannot end this article without mentioning The Last of Us“Left Behind” DLC, which essentially chronicles Ellie's awakening, all framed through a cute day she spends with a girl named Riley. Honestly, I almost went with this instead of LOU2but the latter is ultimately more iconic.
