PlayStation Live-Service's new game is said to be trying to 'find fun'

Upcoming extraction shooter for PlayStation Fairgames is said to be trying to “find fun” during its development. An ongoing playtest has hinted that the PlayStation live service title could still be struggling after similar reports surfaced last year.

Haven Studios announced Fairgames in 2023 for PlayStation 5 and PC. It's the first title from the Montreal-based studio, pitched as a heist shooter in which players must work as a team to collect more loot than their enemies. Since its announcement, Fairgames“Development has been anything but smooth. In September 2025 Fairgames lost its creative director Daniel Drapeau to Warner Bros Games Montreal. Given how key a creative director is to shaping the direction of a project, it's safe to say this was a huge hit on Fairgames' development.

The PlayStation 5 did pretty well, but it wasn't without controversy that kept the console from being truly great.

Fairgames testing is still trying to find the fun factor

A recent report from Insider Gaming claims that the latest round of game testing for the Fairgames doesn't go well and the game is said to be trying to “find fun”. The report says that an extraction-based game mode called Cargo Heist is being tested, with a comparison of the two Division and Call of Duty in its movement and graphics. It also reveals that the game's Discord test server is filled with a lot of negative feedback from players criticizing “game-defining features such as movement, NPCs, the class system, and more.”

Players are said to be trying it out Fairgamesbut you only manage to play a few games before you grind to a halt, with bored teammates becoming more and more of a problem. Reports of similarly ill received Fairgames playtests started rolling in almost a year ago, and it looks like the game still has a very long way to go before it's ready to compete in the increasingly crowded live-service and extraction shooter spaces.

With its creative director leaving at the end of 2025 and playtests still going poorly, it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Fairgames. The project has been shrouded in bad news lately. In February, it was revealed that Haven Studios was not renewing contracts for some of the contractors it was working on Fairgamesalthough the game is still not close to completion. There's still no official release for the extraction shooter, but all indications are that it's still a long way off.

Sony's massive push into live services over the past few years hasn't quite gone to plan. The high-profile failure of Concord was a turning point for the company, and PlayStation claimed that it began to reassess risk after it. This makes his approach to Fairgames especially interesting to watch. It knows that releasing a subpar product will likely lead to another major flop, but Sony also doesn't want to burn through huge amounts of funding trying to create Fairgames playable.
