Shortly after Pokemon Scarlet and Violet started a 7-star Tera Raid battle against Torterra The Unrivaled, trainers created ways to easily solo her. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Players then shared their solo strategies for Torterra on social media, listing the two Pokemon builds that proved to be the safest bets.
Known as the Continental Pokémon, Torterra first appeared in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl as a fully developed form of Turtwig and Grotl. In the latest Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Seven Star Tera Raid, Torterra's ground-type powers have been enhanced through the Tera-type. Torterra the Unrivaled will regularly use Wood Hammer, Earthquake, Smack Down and Earth Power to deal damage. Twice during the fight, Torterra will use Shell Smash to boost his attack stats, then quickly clean up any negative stat changes that occurred.

Raids are now underway on Torterra, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players have developed methods to defeat her on their own. The r/PokemonScarletViolet subreddit featured two strategies that featured Orthworm and Haunter. To build Orthworm, one strategy shared by Reddit user rarely_sk8 used his Earth Eater ability, which caused Earthquake and Torterra's Earth Force to heal rather than damage them. With two powerful negated moves, the Orthworm's steel characteristics also allow it to resist grass and rock damage from Wood Hammer and Smack Down. With Metronome as a held item and maximum effort (EV) values in HP and Defense, Orthworm was given a Tera-Ground type along with Iron Defense, Body Press and Protect moves, with room for a filler move like Mud. -Slap.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players use Orthworm and Haunter to solo Torterra The Unrivaled
An alternative strategy that Haunter used was also shared by a Redditor named GussX. Haunter was given an Eviolite item to hold, which boosts the defense of Pokémon that are still able to evolve. With the Levitate ability, Haunter could nullify the power of Earth and Earthquake. However, Levitate could in turn be canceled by a Torterra Smack Down. Even though Smack Down canceled Levitate, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet players have pointed out that the boss Pokemon's AI won't account for this and instead use moves like Wood Hammer first. The Eviolite Haunter build used Clear Smog moves to negate Shell Smash's attack buffs and Acid Spray to lower Torterra's special defense. With Nasty Plot to boost Haunter's special attack, his Giga Drain attack could do some serious damage when Terastalized to a Grass type. Like Orthworm, Haunter's EVs were focused on HP and defense.
Although Torterra is the last Starter Pokémon prior to Gen 9 to be featured as a Tera Raid boss, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet you still have stronger creatures to pull from for future Tera raids. Only time will tell what strategies players will develop in the future.
