Lila undergoes Agony in Dune_ Prophecy

It was a short but sweet visit Dune: The Prophecy for Chloe Lea's Lila. Although Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams) envisioned her as a future Reverend Mother, Lila perished in the Sisterhood's attempt to save herself. While Valya was away dealing with the deaths of Lord Pruwet Riches (Charlie Hodson-Prior) and Reverend Mother Kasha (Jihae Kim) in the first episode, she left her sister in charge of the school and asked her to put Lila through “Spice”. Torture.”

Tula was seen preparing poison from Rossak, a nod to the ritual associated with his discovery on Rossak in the books. 2004 Dune: Battle for Corrin Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson completed the ritual when they confirmed that Raquella Berto-Anirul (Cathy Tyson) was poisoned by Rossak witch Ticia Cenva and managed to successfully transform the drug into a harmless substance. One of the side effects of the substance is the ability to visit the merged ego and memories of one's female ancestors. However, as Lila's death proves, they are not always happy to receive visitors.

Agony is already familiar to fans of the original Frank Herbert books and films. Both Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) and Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) went through it. Most famously, Paul performed the Agony Dune: Part Two and emerged on the other side as the fabled Kwisatz Haderach/Lisan al Gaib. Spice Agony involves aspiring Reverend Mothers ingesting the blue substance, but as horrible as it is for them, it's worse for the men. As Reverend Mother Helen Mohiam observed in DuneAll the men who tried to transmute the Water of Life died.

Josh Brolin has been talking about his role in Dune: Messiah and when he'll be working on it, and the interview doesn't bode well.

After being injected with a lethal poison, Lila metabolized the toxin and successfully took her consciousness to meet her ancestors in her Inherited Memory. She met Raquella, who was not only the first leader of the Bene Gesserit, but also Lila's great-great-grandmother. Although Raquella looked like she was there to help her relative, everything was interrupted by the ghost of Sister Dorothea. 30 years before the main events of the series, Valya used the 'Voice' for the first time and forced Dorothea to kill herself.

As a vengeful Dorothea warned Tula, Valya took away her future, so now she will take her 'hope'. Since Lila was something of an adopted daughter to Tula, Dorothea killed Lila on Wallach IX, killing her physical form. Since Lila seemed like an underrated character who was full of promise without the ego of some of the other girls, it was a shock to see her bow out so soon – especially considering her connection to Raquella and the fact that Dorothea was her own grandmother.

Lila's death makes perfect sense

Lila'd death in Dune_ Prophecy

There are already theories circulating that Lila may not be gone forever. Herbert's Children of the Dunes shows Paul's sister Alia (briefly played by Anya Taylor-Joy v Dune: Part Two), possessed by the spirit of Baron Harkonnen – her biological grandfather. Dorothea wanted revenge, and if she could possess Lila while tricking Tula into thinking she was still alive, there could be serious trouble at school.

Most importantly, Lila's death allowed Raquelle to warn the sisters of the coming Tiran-Arafel, telling the young acolyte:

The key to accounting is the twice born. Once in the blood. Once in the spice. A scarred revenant. A weapon born of war, on a journey too short.

The first episode foretold a great showdown to come at the hands of the tyrant, with ominous forebodings teasing the destruction of the Benegesserit temple on Wallach IX. While this seemed to foreshadow Leto Atreides II as the God Emperor of Dune, the fact that Demond Hart (Travis Fimmel) “died” on Arrakis and was reborn in the middle of the war is another potential player as the legendary Tiran-Arafel.

It also threw in another mystery, with fans wondering what happened to Lili's mother. Young girls are taken from their biological mothers at birth to prevent them from bonding with each other, and although Tula told Lila that her mother had died in childbirth, it appears that this was another lie by the Harkonnens. A hopeful Lila suggested that she could see her mother in her Inherited Memories, but when Dorothea emerged from the shadows, she told Lila that her mysterious mother was not there. Instead, she suggested that the Bene Gesserit use it as a tool to get Lila to go there.

It is clear that Lila's mother did not die in childbirth. Since he's not there in his Inherited Memories, there could be some serious consequences if he's still alive. Whether she's a character that's already been introduced or someone just making her debut, great-granddaughter Raquella can be a powerful ally or a powerful foe. There's a reason Valya and Tula are keeping her fate a secret, but with Lila now dead, the past might catch up with the Harkonnen sisters. After all, Desmond Hart has already shown Valye that she's not as powerful as she thinks.

Even though Lila is gone in physical form, she could appear further down the line. As Sister Emeline (Aoefie Hinds) said to Lila before the Agony:

Reverend mothers know better than anyone else that the dead are not gone.

There is an element of tragedy that Lila chose to undergo the Agony alone. But while Raquella's line has lost another, it looks like the continuing mistakes of the Harkonnen line will come back to bite Valya and Tula. At the start of the show, it was said to be correcting inaccuracies in the history of House Harkonnen, but the Mother Superior could be heading towards her own version of the Duniverse. Macbeth.
