Something tells me that the revival of Persona 4 was not ready for proper revelation. After years of rumors that this remake was in the works, the voice actor Yuri Lowenthal and another of the original cast clarified on the social media that they would not return to revive. This was a shocking revelation itself, which was made even more, because the mysterious remake of all of them was excluded, it was still necessary to announce.
Atlus either had this laughing brief revelation planned all the time, or turned to publish its existence in response to more and more important names, which probably did not sign the NDA instead. Either way, reaction to your debut trailer on the Xbox Showcase last week feels like a warning sign where the series is right now, and that they may stop relying on nostalgia and accept the future.
The performances like this are planned for months in advance, so all leaks confirming its existence and this short trailer that follows in its footsteps can only be a lucky accident.
Recognition of Persona 4 will be incredible but also feel unnecessary
I would say that P Persona 3 and its subsequent edition had a hard but specialized audience, but thanks to the fourth record, the series has finally attracted the normal base of players who would not take it far into the future. Persona 4 was in her game more ambitious and more accessible in her game and moved his narration and character to a place where dark and contemplative themes were shared by a killer sense of humor and calming vibration that made you sink into the rural city of Inaba. He introduced a balance that would become bread and butter persona.
At the same time, however, the original visual elements remained stylized in a way that used the PS2 console technology and at the same time encouraged our imagination to fill in the gaps. The results are magical and established foundations for the next two decades of personality. There is a good reason why we are still talking about it today, and why Atlus produces its second remake in the same number of years instead of providing news about Person 6.
When I think about exploring the rural mountain town of Inaba, I remember a permanent fog that is constantly emerging over my head, or daily walks to and from school accompanied by a cycle over puddles or make sure I always had an umbrella at hand to avoid rain. We will greet friends by the river to talk about the upcoming AO classes whether we would later take the midnight channel that day. It was undeniably charming, but came up with the basic level of constant anxiety. I ran out as a stranger in a strange country that the undervalued visuals PS2 did a great job in expressing.
Persona 4 Golden is an incredibly colorful experience with his rainbow aesthetics made to reflect his diverse cast, but even this remake Vita understood where the line was.
Atlus must change too much or nothing at all
It seems that the recovery, like Persona 3 Reload before, is pushing colors through the otherwise undervalued palette of the original. I have no doubt that it will look on the role and do amazing work when it comes to displaying familiar places and characters, but already makes the same mistakes as re -loading. Everything about it feels clean, disinfected, as if Atlus was fighting inaby in the same light as many years ago. I consider it quite ironic that CRT televisions are the central means of access to metavers across narration, where key events are depicted with granular and rough noise, only for a real game that seems intact to blame.
As my headline remarks, it is like the Unreal Engine 5 fan project that you would see to attract a lot of views on YouTube. Sure, it looks nice, but the idea of playing frequently-raised games such as Super Mario 64 or Ocarina Time in this way sounds like the most unpleasant experience you can imagine. Beautiful visual effects that look and feel clear, do not contribute to the aesthetics that remain with us. Games like Persona 4 and his numbered siblings struck gold because there is nothing else like them either visually or narrative. Now these remakes are used to look like everything else.
Persona 4 will present more people into this star game than ever, but at the same time fears that it could be presented in an imperfect form with fresh visuals, new actors revive iconic characters and take over their source material that takes much more than adds.
Maybe I am too rare about things, but after it came and changed persona 3 and changed, my concerns feel justifically. I hope Atlus gets this truth.
