The road from Lockdown Zone: Level X
From web novel to anime
When Locked Zone: Level X started in 2017, it was a web-only novel that was published on a manga and light novel app called peep. The original story was written by Romy Oishi. This web novel was then adapted into a manga form by meshe, which was published from July 2020 to March 2022. In the same year, it also became a web movie adapted by taskey STUDIO. Finally, Lockdown Zone: Level X was adapted into a light anime in 2024, airing from September 6 to October 12 on CBS Television in Japan.
The manga is available in English from Denpa, who describes the plot as (via AniTrendz),
Ryoka is awakened by a barrage of text messages from her mother! Panicked and in a hurry, the mom is clearly worried about Ryochi's safety, but doesn't want to let her daughter know why. Her reasoning was that nothing could properly describe what was happening!
Maybe it's the end of the world! And there could be a massive new life form on the roof of their apartment building!
By October 24, the Peep app will release 20 full-color manga chapters Lockdown Zone: Level X in Japanese, all of which will be available for free. It's likely that they will be translated in due course, possibly by Denpa, and then also available in English to keep fans happy until further news regarding the sequel.

What is 'Light Anime?'
What makes it different from regular anime
Lockdown Zone: Level X is considered a “light anime”, which is not the same as a regular anime series. Light anime are often shorter and contain fewer episodes than a full series would normally have. Light anime is also easier to animate, costs less money and takes less time to produce. Lockdown Zone: Level X is currently the third light anime to be produced by AnimationID studio. The previous two projects were Moriarty's perfect crime and Maarui Kanojo to Zannen na Kareshiwhich also came out in 2024.
Light anime may be something that has become more common in the anime industry. As the industry continues to grow and produce more and more anime, it will likely be a popular way to create shorter and cheaper series faster. It takes a lot of time and money to produce anime series now, and not all shows are successful enough to generate the necessary income. If you like the series Lockdown Zone: Level X it can be successful, it can be the beginning of a new trend in the industry.
