Star Wars Jedi should go all out on the Cal Kestis customization

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor fixed a huge mistake when it came to customization. To be fair, the lightsaber component configurations have been consistently complex throughout the series, but what's memorable Star Wars Jedi: Fallen OrderCustomization is little more than a palette swap for Cal Kestis, BD-1, and Stinger Mantis. It wasn't until Star Wars Jedi: Survivor that Respawn has invested in elaborate customization options, at least outside of the numerous color variants of ponchos and jumpsuits, allowing Cal to take on a completely dynamic look now that he can grow a long beard.

The clothing options are wonderful to see Survivorsespecially since they cover a wide range of specific periods related Star Wars tradition. Respawn and EA also used this opportunity to make points Survivors with fan-inspired cosmetics Star Wars' A new hope and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Now both nostalgic and original clothing items are expected to return in the final chapter of the franchise, although there is one simple and understated type that Respawn will hopefully pay more attention to as it would help close out the series as it completes its trilogy: the hood stretched out on Cal's head.

How Cal Kestis' Hooded Poncho Has an Unrequited Impact on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Maybe the hood cosmetic wouldn't be as requested or expected if Respawn didn't tighten it up. Cal was wearing the hood of his scrapping poncho when he was first revealed in the film's reveal trailer A fallen order—in the first shot of the trailer, no less. The hood here helped sell the idea that Cal was actively hiding from the Galactic Empire and the Inquisitors on Braccy, keeping a low profile and not stepping on any toes to live a quiet life as a fugitive.

So it's disappointing that players wear the same hooded Scrapper Guild Poncho in the game, but there's no option for them to put the hood over Cal's head. This isn't particularly alarming given how minimal the customization options are for Cal in A fallen order for starters though Survivors it also eschewed the option of having a hooded transmission in its extensive catalog.

Star Wars Jedi's Cal Kestis doesn't have to go to the dark side to don the hood

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of WarCosmetics include the iconic hooded cloaks. Shadow of Mordor's was included as a Dark Ranger pre-order bonus skin Shadow of MordorWhen Talion becomes a Nazgûl, it's embedded into the end-game gear system and narrative.

This connotation in Monolith Middle Earth the duology would suggest that the hoods are associated with darkness and, in Talion's case, enslavement by the Ring of Isildur—one of the nine rings given to humans. Of course, countless characters wear hooded cloaks without any particular meaning or subtext other than a potential attempt to hide their identity, as seen in Aragorn's Strider figure with Bree's Prancing Pony. However, it's remarkably elegant and presents an aesthetic definition that cosmetics in many games don't often have, and it's striking as a result.

If Respawn wanted to, they could have two viable ways to combine the hood with Star Wars JediCal Kestis: could provide a hooded cloak as a pre-order bonus similar to Mordor's, or it could throw Cal on the path to the dark side and give him the hooded robes that Anakin Skywalker dons. Revenge of the Sithlet alone how Talion puts on the hood when the ring corrupts it.
