One of the biggest surprises of today's big Nintendo Direct was the announcement of the Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, which includes games like basketball, skateboarding, golf and more.
As if the last week wasn't jam-packed enough in terms of gaming news, thanks to a packed triple-A PlayStation showcase, a surprisingly good amount of Summer Game Fest announcements, and a strong Spyro-revival action on the Xbox, Nintendo decided none of us deserved a break and announced Direct out of nowhere. And when Treehouse followed, it loomed large.
Before the Direct, we didn't know anything specific about what Nintendo planned to show, but there were some obvious choices like The Duskbloods and riskier choices like the Zelda remake that leaked a few months ago. One of the nicest surprises was the sequel to Nintendo Switch Sports, aptly named Nintendo Switch Sports Resort.

Following the announcement of the new Xenoblade game, Nintendo brought out the real big guns with Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, which continues the series' tradition of the second game taking place in a resort. Switch Sports Resort includes a ton of sports, including basketball, golf, skateboarding and more.
Switch Sports needs to learn from Wii Sports Resort
Switch Sports is bland, and that's because it has too little to offer players who are stuck
Of course, by “and more” I mean thumb wrestling, which is somehow one of the main sports included in the Resort. It's clearly one of the additions that Nintendo is most excited about, as we've seen some extended gameplay of Koizumi playing a match and clearly having fun.
