The $200 Metal Gear Solid Delta Collector's Edition has been heavily discounted

You may remember last year's Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater collector's edition, which fell short of any wish. Specifically his terrarium with a strange looking snake statue inside. Konami wanted $200 for it, and it seems not many people were willing to pay that, because not only is the CE still in stock eight months later, it's heavily discounted, probably in an effort to get rid of them.

No more paying $200 for a weird MGS Delta snake figure

With an MSRP of $199.99, even the most die-hard Metal Gear fans probably scoffed at the thought of picking one up when the remake came out last summer. Especially if they were waiting to watch some unboxings. While the product may have looked good on screen, the real thing fell short of the mark.

The snake character inside was so bad that CE benefited from laughing at them rather than really pissing off fans, although I'm sure there are those who spent $200 on this thing last year and fall into the latter category. The character doesn't look like Snake, and if you get under him and get a good look at his face, you can see that he's squinting for some reason.

The terrarium foliage is also much less thick than the promotional pictures would suggest. Not ideal for a character that relies on stealth.

Since so few people were willing to shell out for Snake Eater's CE at launch, you can pick one up now on Woot for $79.99. Already 60 percent off, you can actually get it for even less. Enter code GAMER20 at checkout, and it knocks a little more off the final price, down to $63.99. Plus, if you have Prime, you get free shipping because Woot is owned by Amazon.

The collector's edition is worth it even without the snake terrarium

After trashing the Collector's Edition for the first few paragraphs of this article, you might be wondering why I would expect you to pay anything for it, be it $64, $200, or something in between. Well, it's not just the statue you get. It also comes with a copy of the game – not a given that CE would have that these days – along with everything that comes with the digital deluxe edition, which is currently still $79.99 if you buy it in its entirety.

You'll also get a replica Naked Snake patch for the game, along with other collectibles you won't find anywhere else, and your physical copy of the game comes in a retro metal game case. While you'll immediately toss the Serpent statue in the trash once it arrives, everything else makes this heavily discounted CE worthwhile for any Metal Gear fan. But I would recommend keeping the terrarium. Fill it with enough of your own plants and guests may not be able to tell how strangely hidden the snake looks. Ideally, put so much greenery there that they won't see it at all.
