Early upgrades in Pragmatics shape how you players handle combat and hacking right from the start. Since Diana's hacking abilities are directly tied to combat and resources are limited at first, choosing the right power-ups can make encounters much more manageable than overwhelming. If you want a smoother start and fewer early game setbacks, here are the top upgrades to prioritize Pragmatics and why they matter now.

The best early upgrades for the unit printer in Pragmata

Pragmata unit printer upgrades

The Unit Printer terminal in the shelter can handle most of your stuff equipment and ability upgrades in Pragmatics. You will need to invest Lunafilament and Pure Lunum to get upgrades in the Unit Printer, which can be obtained by exploring different levels and defeating enemies in the game. With that said, here are the best early Unit Printer upgrades you should aim to unlock first Pragmatics.

Unit type

Upgrade

Reason for early upgrade

Arms

Shockwave Gun

It's a shotgun-type weapon that allows Hugh to dish out massive amounts of damage to enemies at close range. Aim to invest in at least the first two upgrades to unlock the weapon in loadout selection and increase its base damage.

Charge the Piercer

The Charge Piercer is an energy rifle that can take down most flying drones and robots with one shot from a distance. Buy at least one upgrade to unlock it in the gear selection.

Riot Blaster

If you're cornered in a room full of enemies, the Riot Blaster will help push enemies back and temporarily stun them with its AOE blast. It's an essential weapon for Hugh to have in his arsenal, especially when finishing off red zones.

Crochet

Multi-Hack

A combination of Confuse and Multi-Hack will turn your enemies against each other. This is a deadly combination and these hacking nodes should be upgraded as soon as possible to make combat encounters a breeze.

Confuse

Abilities

Quick movements

Quick moves are a perfect dodge that is extremely useful when you get into melee combat. Make sure you purchase this capability from Unit Printer in Pragmatics as soon as possible so that Hugh can quickly move out of the way of the attacks and slow down the time it takes to get a few shots at the enemy's weak spots.

Fix-Up

Increases the amount of HP that is restored with a repair cartridge. Since healing items are few and far between, purchasing Repair-Up upgrades will maximize the healing gained from using a single cartridge.

Nozzles

Thrusters not only let Hugh float in the air, but also let him perform tricks both on the ground and in the air. Upgrade the Thrusters at the start Pragmatics not only will it improve your traversal abilities across levels, but it will also give Hugh an advantage when dodging attacks in combat.

Mod slots

The mods add various buffs to Hugh and players will only be able to use one at the start. However, upgrading your mods early will allow you to use more mods, making Hugh much more powerful early on. Pragmatics.

Pragmata Firmware Updater statistics update

There is also a Firmware Updater tab in Shelter that allows players to invest in component upgrades defensive stats, damage and hacking efficiency for Hugh and Diana. While it's entirely up to players which stats they want to prioritize based on their build, my recommendation is to balance all stats by investing equal points in each (if you want a more balanced experience with pragmatism).
