In the beginning Narutothe only one Tailed Beast fans thought existed was Kurama. However, over time, it became clear that there was more than just one, and eventually in the second part Narutofans got to see them all, one by one. While the Tailed Beasts were considered weapons at the beginning of the series, towards the end things changed significantly and it was all Naruto's fault. Tailed Beasts began to roam freely around the world at the end of the year Narutowith the exception of Kurama who stayed with Naruto and Gyuki with Killer Bee. The fate of the others remains unknown.
Kurama's death in Boruto changed the balance of the tailed beast
- Kurama died in battle against Isshiki
- Naruto Uzumaki was left without the beast
Of course, when it comes to the fate of the Tailed Beasts v Boruto series, fans already know about several of them. For example, Kurama was a major plot point in the Boruto series and fans saw him die in Naruto's battle against Ishiki. This battle was impossibly difficult for Naruto to win as he was. Because of this, fans knew that he had to develop to the next level if he was to have any chance of defeating the force that was Isshiki. To solve this problem, Kurama suggested using the Baryon Mode, which would see Naruto and his own chakra being used as cores to create a new form of energy. In the end, Kurama died due to chakra exhaustion and fans were devastated to see Naruto Uzumaki being stripped of his tailed beasts.
Goodbye Naruto! Don't join me anytime soon. – Kurama
Having been with Kurama since day one, it was shocking to fans to even imagine that Naruto would now have to live without this powerful beast by his side.
Besides Kurama, fans also know about Gyuki, the eight-tailed beast. Gyuki played a prominent role in the Naruto series and was the first Tailed Beast to be shown in proper synergy with a Jinchuriki. It was actually Gyuki and Killer B who taught Naruto how to properly control his Tailed Beast. At the end of the Fourth Great Ninja War, Gyuki could go free if he wanted to. However, his bond with Killer Bee was so strong that he decided to stay and the two have continued to form a dynamic duo ever since. Unfortunately in Boruto series, both Gyuki and Killer Bee are largely unseen. Their whereabouts are unknown and it remains to be seen if they will play any part in the active trouble against Shinju. At the very least, fans know that Gyuki is still with Killer Bee and will jump into action if needed.
Where are the other tailed beasts?
Other tailed beasts roam the world freely
With Kurama and Gyuki's case out of the way, fans naturally begin to wonder where the rest of the Tailed Beasts are. As fans know, at the end of the Fourth Great Ninja War, Naruto managed to free all the tailed beasts. The Tailed Beasts have been through quite a bit Naruto series. Forcibly sealing people inside and creating weapons was bad enough, but as things went on, they were collected one by one inside the Gedo statue and then bound with the power of the Rinnegan. If that wasn't enough, fans then got to see them being used to create the Ten-Tails and at one point even being used by Kaguya for her own good.
Now you can move freely as you want. – Hagoromo Otsutsuki
Just when they thought the danger from Kaguya was over and they were free, Sasuke decided to seal them with the Chibaku Tensei. All of this means that the Tailed Beasts suffered quite a lot and it was only after all this suffering that they were freed by none other than Naruto Uzumaki. Once the Tailed Beasts were freed, they could go anywhere they wanted. Apart from Kurama and Gyuki, the other Tailed Beasts were free and chose to roam the world as they wished. They were still connected to Naruto which meant that if the need ever arose they could easily connect inside his psyche and deal with the situation accordingly. This was a pretty cool concept for the author to use in the Boruto series, but unfortunately it didn't exist.

Currently, fans have not received a single update on where the Tailed Beasts are following the events of the Fourth Great Ninja War. The Tailed Beasts continue to roam the world and seem to not even be connected to Naruto. At one point they were deeply concerned with the fate of the world and the cessation of chakra fruit creation; now for some reason it doesn't bother them at all. Not even once did they contact Naruto, not even the seventh felt it necessary to bring them into the group. It's undoubtedly poorly written on the author's part, but at the same time, it can be fixed later in Two Blue Vortex if the author takes them seriously.
Will the remaining tailed beasts play a role in Boruto?
The remaining tailed beasts could help Naruto
Logically, the remaining Tailed Beasts should play a huge role Boruto series. In fact, their importance is greater than ever after Kurama's death. Fans know that Kurama has now reappeared as Himawari Uzumaki. But that means Naruto and Kurama can't be reunited anymore. Naruto's need for power is still desperate. He can't continue to rely on Sage Mode because the last time he did it, they made a fool of him in battle. Naruto can't protect himself as he is, which means he can't even protect the village, making him unfit for the position of Hokage.
For this reason alone, Naruto must seek immense power, and that power can come from the remaining Tailed Beasts. These beasts are running around the world and their job now is to work with Naruto and protect the world. It should be noted that the Tailed Beasts are friendly with Naruto while realizing that he needs help more than ever to protect the planet. If Naruto seeks them out, they would gladly help him and share their chakra with him. In fact, they might even join him in battle, and that would certainly make for an incredible storyline to explore Boruto series.
The main problem though is that the author doesn't seem to want to explore the idea of Tailed Beasts. Fans can only hope that Two Blue Vortex changes that and reintroduces fans to the Boruto series, especially as Naruto's main power source after losing Kurama.
Boruto is available to read through Viz Media. Fans can officially read the series for free on Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next Boruto chapter, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 17, is set for December 19, 2024.
