The leaked Avatar Aang movie will officially start streaming soon

Paramount+ is coming Avatar: The Last Airbender the film was leaked earlier this year in April, when the entire film was uploaded online on X (formerly Twitter) before making its way around the internet. Takes place after the events of the original The Last Airbender TV series, but earlier The Legend of Korra, Avatar Aang is the first in a three-film series that follows the adventures of the Gaang as Team Avatar faces new challenges in adulthood.

The brand new release of Avatar: The Last Airbender will be available to fans worldwide next month.

Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender will air on July 25, 2026

Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender will officially be available to stream on Paramount+ on July 25, 2026, roughly two and a half months ahead of its expected October 9 release date. Although not confirmed by Paramount, the pushed release date seems like a deliberate response to the film being leaked earlier this year. The trailer's message to fans at the end also feels like Paramount's wink at fans who chose not to deal with the leak and instead patiently waited for the official release.

Set about twelve years after the end of Book 3: Air, Avatar Aang focuses on the Gaang discovering a new Airbender, Tagah, who survived the Air Nomad genocide and is trying to bring his people back. The film forces Aang to face his past while creating a new future for his people, culture and the world at large. The film features a new voice cast for the main characters and is 99 minutes long.

Avatar movie skips theaters

Despite the popularity of the franchise and the huge uproar the leak caused, Paramount is holding firm on its refusal to release Avatar Aang in theaters. With an $80 million budget, the film's animation, art direction, and presentation are better suited for a theatrical release than streaming — doubly so because a theatrical release would offer those who watched the leak a different (better) way to actually experience the film.

Korra officially returns in Avatar: The Last Airbender Sequel Series

The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars is a brand new sequel series from the co-creator of the Avatar franchise, taking place right after the events of Book 4: Balance.

Limited editions are becoming more and more common for anime films, so even a short weekend where Avatar Aang ran in theaters would do well. Instead, Paramount is determined to preserve Avatar franchise locked to streaming. Hopefully, the new film will do well enough to justify the high budget for future films and encourage Paramount to bring the series to theaters. Avatar: The Last Airbender deserve.
