An indie horror game with seriousness Dead universe called the vibration Dire Echo is free for a limited time for PC users with an Itch.io account. PC gamers always have plenty of free horror games to choose from. However, this promotion allows them to get a title with “mostly positive” reviews on Steam, which normally sells for $5.99.
Fans of sci-fi horror games should take note Dire Echo's giveaway is not part of Steam's regular freebies. Instead, independent developer TrueGames is offering the game directly to players. Interestingly, Dire Echo launched on June 5, 2026, making it a brand new release for fans to add to their libraries for free.

Similar to the opening Dead universe, Dire Echo follows the protagonist who has been sent to investigate a space station that has gone silent. Called Echo-7, the station features an eerie, claustrophobic design that should be familiar to early-age fans. Dead universe games. As for gameplay, Dire Echo is mostly a walking simulation game with simple puzzles that add to the overall tension. There is no combat, and players follow a linear path as a spaceship captain tasked with exploring an eerie abandoned space station. Most of the time, players move from point A to point B while interacting with wall buttons to unlock new paths. An alien-like creature also appears throughout the game, often scaring jumps and discouraging progress. There are a few smaller parkour sections towards the end, but the experience is mainly about walking, running and observing the environment with a flashlight.
Dire Echo presents a sci-fi space horror story centered on a secret government project called the DIRE program, also known as the Deep Interdimensional Resonance Engine. The program appears to focus on initiating contact with entities from other dimensions, an effort that ultimately leads to a disastrous outcome. Players must piece together what happened by collecting and listening to audio recordings scattered around the space station. Dire Echo is also a relatively short PC game with a campaign that takes around an hour to complete, depending on how quickly players solve its puzzles.
