As for gameplay, Dire Echo is mostly a walking simulation game with simple puzzles that add to the overall tension. There is no combat, and players follow a linear path as a spaceship captain tasked with exploring an eerie abandoned space station. Most of the time, players move from point A to point B while interacting with wall buttons to unlock new paths. An alien-like creature also appears throughout the game, often scaring jumps and discouraging progress. There are a few smaller parkour sections towards the end, but the experience is mainly about walking, running and observing the environment with a flashlight.
