Red Comet, Casval Rem Deikun, Quattro Bajeena – whatever Char Aznable's name is, one truth remains the same: he is one of the greatest pilots in Gundam history. Char is an amazing character and easily one of the best written in the entire series. Char was such a well-developed and defined opponent for Amuro in the original Gundam mobile suit anime the franchise has been cloning him for years: sometimes literally, as in Gundam Unicorn and Gaia Gear.
When his turn as Amur's rival ended, Char became the deuteragonist Zeta Gundam mobile suitbefore you lose all hope in humanity to become the mastermind Char's Rebellion in Gundam Mobile Suit: Char's Counterattack. Whether he's a hero, a villain, or a misunderstood man who just wants to be understood, Char is backed by some of the most powerful mobile suits in UC. Not much from his original Zak II to Sazabi Gundam pilots boast such an impressive list of suits to their name.

Char's Zaku II
Mobile Suit Gundam 0079, The Origin
Zaku is a great machine, especially in the hands of Char Aznable. A modified model of the MS-06S Zaku II commander type, Char's Zaku II is painted in the signature red color scheme of The Red Comet and the original Mobile Suit Char pilots. Gundam anime. Char uses his Zaku II in both Gundam 0079and Origin OVA. Char personally destroyed five battleships during the Battle of Loum using his Zak II.
Char's Zaku II can move three times faster than the average Zaku, allowing him to go head-to-head with the Gundam RX-78-2 during the early episodes of the anime, while Amuro is still getting a feel for manipulating the Mobile Suit. The fact that Char can survive the fight with the RX-78-2 and live to tell the tale multiple times is really a testament to his skill as a pilot and how well his Zaku II is built compared to the average Zaku. However, in the grand scheme of things, Char's Zaku II is his weakest mobile suit in the series.

Commander type Z'Gok
Gundam Mobile Suit 0079
Following Gundam mobile suitIn an early episode, Char is forced to abandon his increasingly outdated Zaku II in favor of new models to keep up with Amur's growth by piloting the RX-79-2. During the Battle of Jaburo, Char officially replaces his Zaku II with a Commander type Z'Gok. As with his Zaku II, Char's Commander Type Z'Gok is painted all red and thanks to Char's innate talent, he can maneuver much better than the average Z'Gok.
Char's Z'Gok is deadly enough to take out the average GM without too much trouble, but ultimately no match for the White Devil himself. However, before Char is forced to retreat, Z'Gok wreaks utter havoc Gundam mobile suit Episode 29. Char's Z'Gok is incredibly fast and takes out his opponents in the blink of an eye. If Amuro hadn't been with the RX-78-2, Char would have been able to seriously damage the Earth Federation forces.

Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe is the best anime of 2026
Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe is a film that every Gundam and anime fan must make an effort to watch in theaters.

Gelgoog commander type
Gundam Mobile Suit 0079
Char's Gelgoog is perhaps his most iconic Mobile Suit in the original Gundam anime, only connected to his original Zaku II. Towards the end of the anime, Char starts using the red type of Commander Gelgoog in most of his final battles. In terms of pure specs, Char's Gelgoog Commander Type rivals at least the RX-78-2 and is even slightly faster. The Gelgoog is an extremely well-crafted mobile suit, equipped with a powerful generator and a variety of weapons that make it a threat on the battlefield.
Where Gelgoog struggles is its armor, which is decidedly weaker than the RX-78-2's Luna Titanium Alloy. Plus, Amuro is simply a better pilot and a better tuned Newtype than Char at the end of the original. Gundam mobile suit. Even in a technically superior suit, Char can't keep up with Amuro's awakening as a Newtype and his absolute mastery of the RX-78-2. Gelgoog is an excellent Mobile Suit, but one Char can only do so much in the face of human evolution.

Zeong
Gundam Mobile Suit 0079
MSN-02 Zeong is the last Mobile Suit Char pilot in the original Gundam mobile suit 0079and effectively the final boss of the series. Char makes her Zeong debut in the last two episodes Gundam anime, albeit in an incomplete, prototype form. Zeong is able to fight RX-78-2 to a stalemate during the battle for A Baoa Qu. RX-78-2 and Zeong completely destroy each other, forcing Char and Amur to make their final fight personal.
The fact that the Zeong is strong enough to destroy the RX-78-2 at all speaks to its high-powered specs. Amuro was the better Newtype, but Char finally had a mobile suit that could help him fend off his opponents on level ground. Zeong featured Psycomma, the precursor to the Psycho-Frames seen in later UC entries, allowing Char to utilize his Newtype abilities. If Char was a stronger Newtype, he could use Zeong to defeat Amur once and for all.

Rick Dias
Zeta Gundam mobile suit
Rick Dias is one of the best designed mass produced mobile suits ever Gundam franchise. Char pilots the red Rick Dias for a decent chunk Zeta Gundam mobile suitwhen he is under the guise of Quattro Bajeena – Captain AEUG. Rick Dias combines the best design philosophies of Zeon technology with the Gundarium, resulting in an almost Zaku/Gundam hybrid perfect for Char's new role as Quattro in Zeta Gundam.
Rick Dias is an excellent suit that can use a number of different weapons and remains relevant throughout Zeta Gundam mobile suiteven after Quattro ditches his personal Rick Dias in favor of Hyaku Shiki. Amuro is even piloted by Rick Dias Zeta to great success. The Rick Dias is a rare mass-produced mobile suit that can make a real difference, especially when piloted by someone as skilled as Char/Quattro.

Gundam director defends himself by watching 140 episodes of anime to understand new movie
Sorcery of Nymph Circe is a sequel to three anime series and two full length movies, which begs the question, can you just jump in and watch the movie?

Gundam Mk-II
Zeta Gundam mobile suit
Although the Gundam Mk-II is pretty much Kamille Bidan's personal mobile suit for the first half of the year Zeta Gundam mobile suitthe series begins with Char (as Quattro Bajeena) leading a team to a Titan base to steal a Gundam Mk-II for the AEUG (in an interesting parallel to the beginning of the original Gundam anime). As a result, Char briefly pilots a Gundam Mk-II early on Zeta before leaving it to Kamille.
The Gundam Mk-II is an extremely powerful mobile suit and an improvement over the RX-78-2 in basically every way imaginable. The Gundam Mk-II is more sensitive, more energy efficient, faster, more agile, more durable and overall stronger than its Gundam predecessors. Char doesn't use the Mk-II for long, but Kamille is better suited for the Mobile Suit as a more powerful Newtype. Plus, it doesn't take long for Quattro to get his hands on a mobile suit that's faster.

Hyaku Shiki
Zeta Gundam mobile suit
Anaheim Electronics' Project Zeta aimed to create the titular Zeta Gundam Zeta Gundam mobile suita transformation that also contained great power (so much so that Zeta is still being used regularly by the end of the year Gundam ZZ Mobile Suit). During Project Zeta, Anaheim Electronics also created the Hyaku Shiki, a Zeta prototype that Quattro Bajeena will pilot for the remainder of the anime.
In a rare change for Char, the Hyaku Shiki is a golden mobile suit that sheds the Red Comet's red color scheme as a sign of Quattro's (albeit temporary) growth. Hyaku Shiki is a powerful unit that Char uses for most of Gryps Conflict, allowing him to go head-to-head with enemies in stronger mobile suits for most of the anime. Unfortunately, Hyaku Shiki is eventually destroyed by Haman Karn's Qubeley in the final episode Zeta Gundam. Awesome mobile suit, the only remotely bad thing about the Hyaku Shiki is that Beecha ends up piloting it in the ZZ.
1
Sazabi
Char's counterattack
Sazabi is Char's final mobile suit and his signature suit Gundam Mobile Suit: Char's Counterattack. Sazabi is an absolute beast of a mobile suit, equipped with the first cockpit of the Psycho-Frame series and also has six powerful funnels. Sazabi was personally designed to complement Char's strengths as a pilot and his growing abilities as a Newtype. However, to level the playing field, Char eventually reveals the specifications to the Sazabi Federation, allowing them to build the Nu Gundam for Amuro.
Sazabi is a tremendously powerful mobile suit that nearly destroyed Amuro inside Re-GZ at the start Char's counterattack. Even though Amuro uses the Nu Gundam at the end of the movie, Char puts up an amazingly close fight, nearly killing Amuro on several occasions. Sazabi is by far Char's most powerful mobile suit in the series, laying the foundation for even more powerful mobile suits to come in UC's future, such as the Sinanju of Unicorn.
