Media Media employees released to establish a new organization owned by employees, Sackbird Studios. The studio includes developers who have worked on Elder Scrolls Online and Project Blackbird, sci-fi MMO, which Xbox canceled, even though Phil Spencer sang the praise of the game.
According to the new study website, the studio is “self -financing for several years”, which allows developers to create something without immediate investment. Sackbird is currently composed of approximately ten higher developers.
Creative independence
The cancellation of the Blackbird project is described as a catalyst for Sackbird creation.
“When I learned that Blackbird had been canceled and many people did a job, it illuminated fire,” says Lee Ridout, CEO of Sackbird. “We realized that the best way to protect our craft – and our team – was to create a studio where creative independence is not tradable.”
The abolition of the multi-year project can be prevented from doing their work for all concerned concerns about copyright and individuals who have invested a significant part of their lives in the project for all participants.
Sackbird Studios's approach is becoming increasingly common in creative sectors, as the tireless growth need often leads to brutal dismissal.
“After years in AAA, we wanted Svoboda to risk intelligent risks without waiting for green light or chasing quarterly goals, says David Worley, Coo.
This last line can be a nod to Microsoft, which in July released over a hundred employees in Zenimax. The dismissal on Zenimax coincided with the abolition of the perfect dark, everwild and the closure of the initiative.
But Ridout is grateful for the time the team spent in Zenimax, despite how their tenure ended. “We are grateful for our time in Zenimax online studies; it formed us as developers and as humans,” says Ridout.
The site does not mean any hint of the nature of the first project of the study, but promises: “The studio focuses on the creation of bold, character experiences without corporate compromises.”
