The Witcher 4 fans want Geralt to narrate the next game

Summary

  • Fans are predicting the capacity in which Geralt will return for The Witcher 4.

  • He was touted as the final boss of Gwent and now as a potential narrator.

  • At least we know Geralt is alive and well during the events of The Witcher 4.

The recent reveal of The Witcher 4 at this year's Game Awards surprised many, as CD Projekt had only recently announced that the game had gone into full production. While most of us expected the trailer to be at least a year away, we unexpectedly received a full movie trailer featuring our new protagonist Ciri.

Since then, the internet's never-ending buzz has created controversy where none existed. However, the rational and functional among us are excited about The Witcher 4. Since Ciri is now a player character, many fans have been wondering what will happen to her adoptive father Geralt.

We're operating under the assumption that the canon ending of The Witcher 3 is the one where Geralt has the silver sword made for Ciri, who finally “approves” of her choice to become a witcher. The other endings don't make much sense, and one set of endings leaves both Ciri and Geralt's fate up in the air. According to CD Projekt, Geralt is expected to live long after the events of The Witcher 3, so we can assume that he will likely be in some capacity in The Witcher 4.

Return of Geralt

Geralt in The Witcher 3 sat in a plush chair in front of some candles and leaned forward as he prepared to play a round of Gwent.

Since we already know that Gwent will be alive and well in The Witcher 4, some fans are predicting that Geralt will be the minigame's final boss. The seasoned warrior proved in The Witcher 3 that he is not only the best monster slayer on the continent, but also a master at the card table.

While this would certainly make a great cameo, others want Geralt to have a more involved role in the story. A recent Reddit thread by donbosco2017 suggests that Geralt could be the game's narrator, a role similar to the one played for him by Dandelion.

The top thread comment by Early_Bookkeeper5394 contradicts this, saying “I'd rather have Dandelion to be honest, he's a GOAT poet. I don't think Geralt and Yen are up to the job.” Others disagree, saying Geralt has a surprisingly poetic way with words.

Another idea suggested by Mrtom987 is that several beloved characters could narrate, including Geralt, Yennefer, Triss, Zoltan, and Regis. As the commenter admits in his message, this idea may be “too much”.

It will be interesting to see if The Witcher 4 uses a narrator. It made sense for Dandelion to chronicle Geralt's adventures because of their relationship, but Ciri is sometimes even more of a tragic lone wolf figure than Geralt, perhaps making the narrator unsuitable for the tone of her story.
