Key things
- Jac Schaeffer is key to any Scarlet Witch project thanks to her success with WandaVision and Agatha All Along.
- Schaeffer understands Wanda's character and potential, making her essential to any future witch movie or series.
- Marvel Studios can't afford to continue the Scarlet Witch story without Schaeffer's involvement in some capacity.
Wanda Maximoff's return to Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) feels imminent, with Kevin Feige hinting that it's just a matter of when and how. Elizabeth Olsen will likely return in a standalone Scarlet Witch movie or possibly in season two WandaVision. But whatever the project, there should be one Marvel Studios writer/producer involved — ideally in a lead role.
In his last appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessWanda sacrifices herself to destroy Mount Wundagore and destroy every copy of the Dark Possession across the multiverse. Even Agatha all the time implying that Wanda is gone forever. But no one is ever truly “dead” in the MCU, especially when the multiverse is still in play. So with the 'Scarlet Witch Returns' title card out, who should take the reins of her next project? The answer lies in looking back at someone who led teams of both WandaVision and Agatha all the time: Jac Schaeffer.

Season 1 of Disney Plus' WandaVision has four episodes left, and showrunner Jac Schaeffer was asked about the possibility of a second season.
Who should oversee all Scarlet Witch projects from now on?
Marvel Studios needs to look no further than Jac Schaeffer for any upcoming project involving the Scarlet Witch. As a creator WandaVision and Agatha all the timeSchaeffer proved her mettle, and the universal acclaim for both shows is a testament to her talent. Her presence is crucial to any future film or series featuring the witch or related characters. In fact, if a standalone Scarlet Witch movie is in the works, there's a strong case for Schaeffer taking on the role of director.
Although Wanda has been a prominent part of the franchise since her debut in Avengers: Age of Ultronher arc has probably peaked WandaVisionthanks in large part to Schaeffer and her team of writers. As head writer and showrunner, she clearly understood the character and its potential. Schaeffer also excelled at adding other characters related to the comics, such as Agatha Harkness—so much so that she successfully helmed Agatha's spinoff series. She also seems adept at wielding the magic and wizarding elements of the MCU, creating her potential for long-term involvement.
Jac Schaeffer is the key to Wanda's future in the MCU
It is worth noting that Jac Schaeffer was not part of the crew Multiverse of Madness – and that movie, while decent, didn't satisfy Wanda or her arc. This underscores how essential Schaeffer is and will be to any future Wanda-centric project. In fact, there's a growing buzz among fans on social media suggesting that Marvel should make her a Kevin Feige-like character overseeing not only the Maximoff family storylines, but other key TV projects as well. Many fans can already see her absence on the upcoming Vision Quest show on Disney+ as a disappointment.
Right now, even more than WandaVisionsuccess Agatha All Along's debut season is a sign of growing demand for Jac Schaeffer. She not only served as the lead writer for the series; she also directed three episodes, including the notable episode 7, “Death's Hand in Mine”. A stand-alone Wanda movie could feature characters from AAAsuch as Agatha, Teen (Billy Maximoff) and Aubrey Plaza's Rio/Lady Death. It would set them up for exciting MCU prospects like the Midnight Sons or even the Young Avengers. Not to mention it could all be related to the upcoming one Judgment Day and Secret Wars events.
Could Schaeffer Take On A Bigger Marvel Studios Role?
Schaeffer's role in the major Avengers projects could resemble James Gunn's executive producer Infinity War and Game overas an honor for how well he handled his Guardians of the Galaxy characters. Her track record with the MCU films, as original screenwriter Black Widow and her incredible writing of additions to captain marveldidn't get off to the best start. However after WandaVision received an impressive twenty-three Emmy nominations (the most of any limited series that year), Schaeffer will likely now have more authority and autonomy within Marvel Studios.
There is also (somewhat far-fetched) potential WandaVision to be renewed for another season if the standalone movie idea doesn't pan out. Schaeffer even commented on it in 2021 in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:
I can't talk about the second season. That really fits the Marvel philosophy. Kevin is so great at going out there and saying, 'This is where it's happening!' to a point. “Here is the field and here the field ends.” The second season is not something to discuss, what is still on the field.
The MCU is no longer the relatively simple universe it was ten years ago, centered around six or more Avengers and a single threat to the planet. Now, with a multiverse and a growing list of heroes and their variants, it becomes a challenge to keep track of everything. Having someone like Jac Schaeffer take creative control of a specific type of Marvel project, such as supernatural stories, could help lighten the load for Kevin Feige. Regardless, the bottom line is clear: MCU can't afford to continue any future Scarlet Witch story without Schaeffer's involvement in some capacity.
