“Time to Rip the Band-Aid”

It's no secret that competitive Marvel Rivals matches have been painful for many lately. Part of this is due to the general toxicity of video games, which no game will ever solve and requires an entire culture to change. Leavers, bouncers, trolls, chat abusers and cheaters are unfortunately a part of every online game, something that can be amplified in free-to-play titles as there is no risk of bad actors getting banned. However, there are other issues with the NetEase game can fix, one of which is DPS insta-locks causing a lack of other needed roles.

Marvel Rivals the players experienced several blows at this point; first the Strategist strike after the Necros streamer shot the roll and the healers felt underappreciated, and more recently the Vanguard strike. While these protests have had varying degrees of impact on the game, the argument behind the Vanguard is particularly strong. Tank players are honestly tired of being left to solo tank when another Vanguard can make all the difference as they put a lot of pressure on them every matchup and see them take all the blame when things go wrong. If Marvel Rivals wants to solve this problem, the answer is simple enough: a role queue. Not everyone will be on board with the addition though, although others will certainly feel it's time to rip off the Band-Aid.

Marvel's new fighting game isn't out yet, but it's already putting the competition to shame

With its latest reveal, the promising Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls accidentally highlights one of the big complaints of the Marvel Rivals fanbase.

Some Marvel Rivals players love not having a role queue, but at this point the change is a must

…all those bad games add up, and if players have to endure a string of bad games instead of waiting for a few games that make them feel great, they might just as likely quit

Two arguments against the role stand in the queue Marvel Rivals have been discussed ad nauseam. First, players like the freedom to create odd lineups and adapt to whatever role is needed at the time. Running all the strategists can be fun, especially when the other team is caught off guard and falls apart due to a weird lineup. And in theory, the ability for players to communicate with each other and switch roles is a benefit. But in reality, outside of high-level play, that freedom is simply not used to its full potential.

In anything below Grandmaster, 3-4 players are far more likely to lock down a Duelist and refuse to switch to what the team needs, yelling when asked to switch than seeing actual coordination. For a lone Vanguard who has to do all the tanking, or a lone strategist who gets flamed for not healing enough despite being left alone to support the entire team, the matchup instantly becomes a chore. The lower mid ranks make for crappy matches because there are no role queues all the time, and this is something that high ranked players don't realize because they play with other skilled and experienced teammates. Although each player's ability to bend is great for those in the upper tiers Marvel Rivalsthe average player is more likely to be stuck with a bunch of main Duelists and encounter a tense battle as a result.

Another key argument against the role queue v Marvel Rivals it is a time to find agreement and it is undoubtedly fair. Games like Marathon suffered from long search times when searching for a game Overwatch of course it takes longer in itself because there is a role queue. Opponents of the role queue argue that spending time waiting for matches could cause many players to leave the game as casual players get used to how quickly they get into the game. Marvel Rivals matches. If one match is a mess, at least they'll be fast in another, right? However, all those bad games add up, and if players have to endure a string of bad games instead of waiting for a few games that make them feel great, they're just as likely to quit. This is especially true in a competitive environment, because while the desire for quick, fast matches makes perfect sense, many players would probably prefer to wait a while when something is really on the line.

Marvel Rivals needs some sort of role queue, but it doesn't have to be as strict as Overwatch

In the interest of balanced games where players don't have to deal with a 1-4-1 setup, it would be great to see NetEase adopt some form of role queue. 2-2-2 matchups tend to work very well, so maybe this will become the way forward for competitive only, while fast play preserves the existing approach. Or possibly Marvel Rivals he could simply limit the roles; no more than 3 Duelists, for example, could make a big difference. Vanguards and Strategists could be limited to 2, which would also kill the pesky triple support meta. No matter which path you take, some change is overdue. That's true Marvel Rivals it's created a “casual first” environment, but if it's going to have a competitive mode at all, it needs to actually feel competitive. When a community is full of toxic players, giving these bad actors no holds barred is a guarantee of trouble for those just looking for a good, competitive match. It's about time Marvel Rivals gave his ranked mode a bit more structure, as the way things are now, a lot of matches end right at the hero select screen.
