US Secret Service chief resigns following Trump assassination attempt

WASHINGTON: US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned after the agency came under scrutiny for failing to prevent a would-be assassin from injuring former President Donald Trump during a campaign rally, the White House said on Tuesday. The agency did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Secret Service, which is responsible for protecting current and former US presidents, is facing a crisis after a gunman managed to shoot Trump from the roof above an outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13.
