If there's one thing NetEase has nailed Marvel Rivalsit's the authenticity of its playable characters. The team spared no expense in bringing iconic superheroes and supervillains into a true hero shooter, with each character's abilities, passives, designs and movement faithfully recreating them as they appeared in the source material. The game launched last month with over 30 characters on the roster, which already hosts some fan favorites. Most notable is Marvel's own Merc with a Mouth: Deadpool.
Deadpool isn't there Marvel Rivals still, but his inclusion is similar to Thanos: inevitable. He is one of the most popular characters in the Marvel catalog, and his latest film took in a billion at the box office last year. His debut in the game is more a matter of “when” than if. That said, players have been speculating how Wade Wilson would fit in Rivals game system. While there are some simple mechanics like his swords and guns, NetEase has many compelling options to explore with his kit.

Deadpool as a Duelist in Marvel Rivals
Deadpool as a duelist is the most likely route NetEase can take with the character. He's the most popular role in the game, he's one of the most popular characters, and to be honest, the damage dealing role suits his mercenary background too well. But as for what they could have done with Deadpool as Marvel Rivals' latest duelist, there are plenty of options they can go with.
His primary source of damage should be his twin pistols, perhaps even turning them gold as a playful nod Deadpool and Wolverine. They would have to be short-mid-range attacks, with an effective range about as long as Doctor Strange's spells or Venom's tentacles. And in more up close and personal melee encounters, his katanas would get loose. And he obviously needs a passive healing ability to represent his deep allergy to death.
When it comes to Deadpool's primary abilities, there are a few different aspects of his character that NetEase can focus on to create some useful damage abilities: his oft-forgotten teleportation technology, explosives, and his complete and utter disregard for the fourth wall.
Maybe he could have an ability where he brazenly teleports behind a chosen enemy, taunting and stabbing them before returning to his original location. Another move could involve making a full-sized rocket launcher out of thin air and either using it as a mini-Iron Man ult or as a rocket jump for some sort of enhanced move.
Deadpool's fourth wall breaks have the potential to be real moves and should be properly reserved for his ultimate. The ultimate, where Wade “hacks” the game's code and defends the opposing team, would be fun to witness and dangerously effective in the heat of battle. It could be something as simple as reversing their controls, or something as elaborate as turning every enemy in a circle into a walking chimichanga unable to do anything but run. If NetEase lets Deadpool change the game's code to be ultimate, the sky is truly the limit with its interesting and fun applications.
Could Deadpool work as a strategist?
As a mercenary armed to the teeth with swords, guns and explosives, it might seem like the most obvious option to make Deadpool a duelist. But anyone familiar with the character understands that the unexpected is the norm where Deadpool is concerned. Making Wade a healer would be one of the rudest things NetEase could do with him.
The developers could even shade it Marvel Rivals in dire need of more strategists, he releases an announcement where Deadpool himself tells the community that he is here to fix the lack of healers in the game. He could heal his teammates with chimichanga sensors that work like a sandwich Team Strength 2. Of course, he would still have to have strong damage potential, but characters like Loki, Mantis and Cloak and Dagger show that NetEase is not afraid Marvel RivalsHealers are powerful in their own right.
Deadpool's Team-Up options
Marvel RivalsOne of the most interesting features is teams, where heroes with shared character histories or similar skill sets can join forces to unleash new and unorthodox attacks. Deadpool would have an opportunity for this feature as Wade has never shied away from a good old fashioned crossover. As a result, he has a lot of great options to join forces with his teammates, with a few particularly exciting exceptions.
Obviously, Wolverine would be a must after the pair's smash hit bromance comedy last year, but Deadpool has an equally famous friendship with Spider-Man. Jeff the Landshark is a relatively new ally of Wade, even hosting the Venom symbiote for a while. Perhaps more than any character, Deadpool needs to have the ability to ally with Cable. He's not in the game yet, but if he does make the roster, the legendary friendship between Cable and Deadpool in the comics should be acknowledged.
