Key things
- Goj's belief in uplifting others over loneliness ultimately prevailed and emphasized the theme of support.
- Aoi Todo played a vital role as Yuji's support system in battles and key moments throughout the series.
- Todo's Cursed Technique “Boogie Woogie” and selfless nature made him an indispensable character in Jujutsu Kaisen.
Jujutsu Kaisen was nothing more than a series that emphasized the importance of friendship and the benefits of relying on others. This was the biggest point of the popular character Gojo's presence in the show, especially when it came time for his long-awaited fight against Sukuna. The 2 represented opposing ideologies where the former wanted to uplift others so no one would be alone while the latter relied only on himself.
So when we see how the story ended, it's clear that Goj's ideology was the superior one, and it shows how central the theme of support for Jujutsu Kaisen. In that vein, perhaps no character throughout the story played a more useful and important role than the legendary Aoi Todo, who can be credited as the reason Yuji was able to overcome his greatest obstacles! So let's see how indispensable Todo was in the story.

The spooky arch of the womb |
When Todo debuted in the series, no one could have predicted the story that would unfold for him. He was introduced as a violent and hot-tempered wizard who beat Megumi senseless just because she had boring taste in women, the absurdity of which caught fans off guard and quickly piqued their interest. During a goodwill event in Kyoto, Todo was about to do the same to Yuji, until he realized that their tastes in women were the same, which made him imagine his whole life with Yuji as his best friend.
After comparing Yuji to his best friend and brother, Todo became the biggest supporting character in the series. This was first seen in the same arc where Jujutsu High was attacked by Hanami, a special grade curse. While far above their pay grade, Yuji and Todo proceeded to defeat the Cursed Spirit using both of their cursed techniques in perfect conjunction as they played off each other very well.
What can I replace in my technique? Only living things? No! My technique works on Crused Corpses and inanimate objects!
However, as integral as he was in every single combat situation, Tod's development really shined in the non-battle moments. The first is during the fight against Hanami where he sees Yuji missing from the fight. Speaking sternly and slapping him across the face, he makes Yuji realize he can't get too angry, so the two lock up and proceed to give Hanami the beating of a lifetime! The same goes for the ending of the series battle against Sukuna, where Todo comes in at the last moments to save everyone and help Yuji once more in his time of need.
However, the best example of Todo being the biggest supporting character is Yuji's battle against Mahita. Mahito was perhaps Yuji's greatest enemy in the story in that the two were opposites who represented different ideologies, much like Gojo and Sukuna. After killing so many people, including those very dear to Yuji like Nobara and Junpei, Mahito was at the lowest point of his life, so much so that he just gave up.
Without fighting back, he became easy pickings for Mahita to kill him on the spot. However, it is here that Yuji is saved by Todo, who gives him a life-changing speech about the necessity of what they're doing and how Yuji now holds the will of everyone he's lost, so he just can't give up. After Yuji rejoins the battle, he and Todo proceed to give Mahito one of the most satisfying beatings of the series, and even at the end Todo willingly sacrifices his cursed technique so Yuji can finally defeat Mahito for good.
Battle support
Todo is the perfect partner in crime
In addition to the plot and thematic importance of this character, he is also one of the most powerful wizards in history Jujutsu Kaisen space and ideal for side-by-side combat! Todo's Cursed Technique, Boogie Woogie, is one of the trickiest techniques to deal with, as it allows him to clap his hands to switch places with anything that has Cursed Energy. Although it sounds simple at first glance, Tod's creativity and skill with his technique makes his opponents extremely disoriented!
This was proven in every single fight he participated in, as even Sukuna, the strongest and most skilled wizard in history with the most knowledge of Cursed Energy, had a hard time keeping up with Tod's masterful application of Boogie Woogie. The technique alone, coupled with his already superhuman strength, makes Tod an incredibly tricky opponent.
Is she swapping with me or Sukuna's vessel? That split second decision boggles my mind!
Plus, she's a selfless character who, despite her obvious talent and strength, tries to make Yuji shine as much as possible. Due to the nature of Boogie Woogie, it's the perfect 'support' kind of cursed technique that disorients the opponent and works perfectly in conjunction with another wizard, which was seen by how well Todo and Yuji fought together each time.
Todo is also incredibly crafty. After playing an integral role in helping Yuji defeat Mahito once and for all, he is shown to have seemingly lost the ability to perform his cursed technique. However, he made a surprise comeback against Sukun with a vibraslap attached to his left arm, allowing him to execute Boogie Woogie at an even faster and more powerful pace than ever before, making him indispensable in the eventual defeat of Sukun and the rescue of every other wizard. out of reach of the Malevolent Shrine. It's safe to say that if Todo wasn't in the story, Jujutsu Kaisen it would have ended much sooner!
Jujutsu Kaisen can be streamed on Amazon Prime and Netflix.
