Roblox is facing yet another civil lawsuit from a government agency, coming from Los Angeles County, California, adding another layer to her legal quagmire. Like several other lawsuits, the new case against Roblox is linked to the alleged failure of its management to protect underage players from child sexual predators and media content deemed inappropriate for children.
Charges against Roblox has been going on for years and first gained national attention in October 2022 after individuals in San Francisco filed a lawsuit alleging that the gaming platform served as a virtual meeting place for an underage California girl and multiple adult men, leading them to meet outside of the game. According to the lawsuit, several illegal activities were allegedly carried out in the incident, including underage drinking, consumption of prescription drugs and the sharing of sexually explicit photos. Within about two months of the filing of the first lawsuit, the United States Congress launched an investigation against several game developers over allegations of online extremism, with Roblox Corp. it is listed among more than a dozen others.
Los Angles County is launching its own legal battle against Roblox
Now, a new Los Angeles County lawsuit claims so Roblox has compromised the safety of children in the name of profit because its perceived lack of safeguards allows children to be exposed to a range of dangers, including sexual grooming. The county is seeking an injunction and reduced fine against Roblox Corp. along with fines of $2,500 per day for each violation. “The trauma that results is horrific, from grooming to exploitation to actual assault,” Los Angeles-based local news station KTLA quoted District Attorney Dawyn R. Harrison as saying. “This has to stop. Harrison added the expert opinion that Roblox “It gives pedophiles powerful tools to prey on innocent and unsuspecting children.”

It is far from the first lawsuit that has been opposed Roblox over safety features to ensure the safety of children. Between August and December 2025, state law officials in Kentucky, Louisiana, Florida, and Texas all announced lawsuits against Roblox Corp., each subsequently filing separate but similar cases against the platform's parent company, making child protection a central focus of all cases filed. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton described the gaming platform as a “hotbed for predators,” and Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill made a similar statement, accusing Roblox Corp. of “enabling and maintaining an online environment in which child predators thrive.”
The fallout over alleged crimes involving children and Roblox has not stopped with lawsuits from individuals and county and state governments. Entire countries have banned or blocked user access Robloxwhile the current list includes Algeria, China, Egypt, Greece, Guatemala, Iraq, Jordan, North Korea, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Russia and Turkey, and previous bans were enacted by Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. Not all of these national bans were solely aimed at protecting children from potential child predators, as the official statement from Russia also claimed Roblox was involved in the “distribution of material containing propaganda and justification of extremist and terrorist activities”, including gambling, attacks on education, violent calls to action and pro-LGBT messages.
To date, Roblox Corp has dropped the lawsuits and related allegations, and the company's legal team appears ready to defend against a new lawsuit filed by Los Angeles County. To its credit, the company has taken some steps in recent months in the name of promoting better child safety standards. As the number of legal actions against the company increased in mid-2025, Roblox banned and disabled unrated games on its platform in an effort to promote a safer experience for children, who make up the majority of its more than 151 million users worldwide. In addition, the company has also attempted to divide the community by age, allowing players to chat only with others who fall within an approximate age range, though its photo ID requirement and several reports of the inaccuracy of its facial recognition tools for estimating age have left many in doubt about its effectiveness.
