While Helldivers 2 was a really massive game for the first year of its life, it struggled a bit to keep players invested for the long term. More great video games pulling players away is a factor every successful title has to deal with, though some controversial balancing decisions and a content drought have also contributed to many Helldivers 2 fans move on. If you're one of the players who left Super Earth, or are thinking about it, the new co-op PvE game to play with your friends is definitely a must. Steam'with Guardians of Avalon it might just be the game, though it's important to note how different its setting is from the blockbuster Arrowhead.
While there are other games with Helldivers vibes on steam, Guardians of Avalon stands out because it trades the expected sci-fi setting for something more reminiscent of Kingdom Come. It's clear that there is very little in common between a slow-paced immersive RPG and hectic combat. Helldiversso Guardians of Avalon definitely has a bigger share Helldivers in its DNA than Kingdom Come. Still, becoming a knight alongside your friends and defeating demonic enemies in a twisted version of Camelot is a bold concept that can be enjoyed by a wide range of players, as its camera perspective and enemies even allow for it. Wardens of Avalon combines Helldivers Co-Op Freedom with Kingdom Come's Sense of Duty
While Guardians of Avalonthe camera's top-down perspective means it resembles the original Helldivers more so than its visual sequel, Freedom will undoubtedly feel familiar to fans of the more recent entry. Much like Helldivers 2 Players can choose from a wide variety of strategies and weapons to change their approach to combat, Wardens of Avalon forces you to experiment. Instead of having a class structure like other games, you can change your lineup based on what certain situations call for. While dodging and parrying are always present, you can gamble with things like risk/reward corruption stats while changing your weapons and armor with seals that “better suit your playstyle.”
Completeness Guardians of Avalon will be playable solo, but it's sure to be more fun in four-player co-op, where players create their own order of knights alongside their friends. While this look at the clan system might just be for show, the game tries to represent knightly duty, which is where Kingdom Come parallels are felt the most. Sure, in the current gameplay players will be slashing demons just like in the game Diabloor look at a screen covered in such chaos that it looks like an orbital laser has just been summoned, but it's the quieter moments between missions that make the game feel special.
When you remove a threat from the lands of Camelot, you gain resources that you can then use to rebuild the kingdom. You will rebuild structures piece by piece, and as the presence of corruption begins to disappear, new opportunities will open up. This includes quests, but more importantly, different vendors that offer different ways to upgrade the Twilight Knight. Apothecaries, Druids, Blacksmiths, and Herbalists are just four of the potential vendors listed, and unlocking access to them by restoring glory to a ruined kingdom should be immensely satisfying. While Helldivers Fans will be able to battle enemy factions alongside their friends, Kingdom Come revelers will appreciate being involved in the rebuilding process.

The Guardians of Avalon are the icing on the cake
While it remains to be seen how mechanically complex the boss battles are in this medieval game on Steam, they have huge potential narratively. Since the Knights of the Round Table are as corrupt as the rest of Camelot, it can be assumed that they will serve as the main bosses of the game. For fans of the lore of King Arthur, the battle with the corrupted version of the legendary character will undoubtedly be unforgettable. Fighting the demonic Merlin could also be an ideal final boss as he would have access to a wide range of magic that could allow for a lot of attacks. With so much going on Guardians of Avalon is a game worth watching as 2027 approaches.
