Popular streamer ExtraEmily has been temporarily banned from Twitch after an incident where a content creator almost crashed a car. The popular Twitch creator's offense violated the site's policy regarding distracted driving while driving a vehicle on-stream.
The Amazon-owned streaming platform has expanded far beyond its roots, with many streamers documenting their daily lives on the web. Many of Twitch's biggest talents live stream everything from traveling on vacation to smaller streams like going out for coffee or shopping. Several top Twitch talents have embraced the platform's “IRL” category as a way to bring fans more into their lives, with some even streaming themselves driving or doing DoorDash. Now, ExtraEmily has run into trouble with Twitch moderation after an incident that resulted in a near crash while streaming on Twitch.

Twitch releases official statement on ad controversy
Twitch shares an official response to the recent controversy surrounding ad changes on the Amazon-owned streaming platform.
ExtraEmily has been officially temporarily suspended from Twitch following an incident on the June 28th stream. During the stream, she was driving her car, taking her eyes off the road and looking at her phone to respond to Twitch chat while driving. Distracted driving resulted in her nearly crashing into an oncoming Mazda SUV, with the streamer narrowly avoiding colliding with the other vehicle. Neither vehicle was damaged in the near-crash, but ExtraEmily was banned from Twitch for 24 hours following the incident. ExtraEmily's Twitch ban has since been lifted and she has been allowed to return to streaming.

The ExtraEmily incident sparked controversy among the Twitch community due to the seemingly light punishment the streamer received. Although Emily was in direct violation of Twitch's policies, she only received a 24-hour ban from the platform and was allowed to return the next day. The incident raised the topic of whether controlled streaming should be allowed on the platform at all, with live broadcasts and the potential for users to be distracted by chat conversations a major security concern. The streamer said that shortly before the incident occurred, she turned off her Tesla's autopilot, usually driving with the feature on.
The latest incident isn't the first time ExtraEmily has found herself in hot water for streaming. ExtraEmily was caught running a red light during a previous stream and didn't seem to slow down at all before going through a stop sign. Many fans at the time called her actions potentially dangerous to other drivers on the road and called for Twitch to take disciplinary action as a result. The streamer was even involved in a streaming accident in 2023, although she was not at fault for that collision.
ExtraEmily's Twitch suspension follows a larger effort to solidify the platform's moderation policies throughout 2026. Twitch implemented a new ban system in 2026 that clearly laid out the system around various chat and live bans. The platform now divides its punishments between restricting the ability of offending users to speak in chat and restricting the ability to stream on Twitch. Some more serious violations of the platform's policies may even result in a ban from both chat and live streaming, depending on the severity of the offense. Fans can only hope that ExtraEmily learns from her latest ban and prefers safe driving over chat.
