The first Hokage of Konoha, Hashirama Senju, was first introduced in the Konoha Crush Arc, specifically in Naruto Chapter 118 on April 22, 2002. 24 years have passed since then and his legend has only grown. His exploits as a God of Shinobi continued to grow in the second half of Naruto's story. Hashirama Senju was particularly known as a unique Wood Release Jutsu user. While many Shinobi possess various Kekkei Genkai, Wood Release is a rather rare ability that not many have had throughout history.
In fact, Hashirama was the only one born with this power naturally, and its power was such that it was coveted by many after his death, including his greatest rival, Madara Uchiha. Hashirama died a long time ago. Now, Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes officially adding his successor when it comes to using Wood Release Ninjutsu. Decades later, Konoha now has a natural Wood Release user in the form of Moegi Kazamatsuri, who is now confirmed to wield the power of this uniquely rare Kekkei Genkai herself.
Moegi Kazamatsuri is officially confirmed as Hashirama's successor as the new Wood Release user in Boruto Volume 4
Wood Release is a unique anomaly in Hashirama Senju's DNA that allows him to combine Earth Release and Water Release to create various forms of vegetation and manipulate any wooden structure that may exist in nature. Wood Release is an incredibly overpowering ability, not only because of its huge defensive abilities and ability to change terrain with abilities like Deep Forest Emergence, but also because of its unique ability to absorb the Tailed Beast's chakra as well as the chakra of every individual that exists in the Naruto world. For all of these reasons, Wood Release is particularly unique as a Kekkei Genkai, and it is also because of these characteristics that individuals like Madara Uchiha and even Konoha have sought to replicate this power in many ways.
While all of the various experiments that Konoha did failed in the end, what really stands out is that in the Boruto era, Konoha has now successfully managed to create a unique Wood Release user naturally. That person is none other than Moegi Kazamatsuri. In Boruto St. Official Release 4, Mikio Ikemoto and Masashi Kishimoto confirm that Moegi Kazamatsuri is a Wood Release user.

For those who don't remember, Moegi was a Genin who tagged along with Konohamaru Sarutobi v Naruto series. In the Boruto era, she is now a full Jonin from the village and one of the strongest female fighters in the series. She currently leads Team 10 and it's clear why she is trusted as much as she is in Konoha. With the power of Wood Release, Moegi wields one of the rarest and most powerful abilities in existence, and we can't wait to see her in action as Boruto: The Two Blue Vortexes penetrates deeper into the arcs of Shinju.

Naruto was nerfed and in his weakened state he is far from the strongest ninja of Konoha.
Why could Moegi be attached to the Senju clan
While Moegi was officially confirmed to have the power of Wood Release in Boruto Volume 4, we still don't know how she got the power in the first place. What is clear is that Moegi Kazamatsuri awakened this power naturally, unlike Yamato who was an experiment created using Hashirama's DNA. Since Moegi was a natural Wood Release user, this brings up the possibility that she has a connection to the Senju Clan. After all, Hashirama is the only individual who had this Kekkei Genkai, and he belonged to the Senju. In other words, Moegi could possibly be related to the Senju or born from a family branch of the Senju clan itself.

The answer to this question probably won't be revealed anytime soon, but it is likely that there is a blood connection between her and the First Hokage of Konoha who died in an unknown period of time. If Moegi is indeed connected to Senju, then it also greatly increases her chakra. In the Naruto series, it is officially stated that the Senju clan is known for having significant chakra reserves as well as incredible vitality. With such immense powers, Moegi could stand as one of Konoha's strongest Jonin in the current era, something that makes us all excited to watch her fight in the future.
Moegi's Wood Release Jutsu includes Green Hued Jutsu and Vegetation Jutsu
Unfortunately, Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes didn't give Moegi Kazamatsuri any fighting opportunities, but the official release confirms that Moegi is a user of two specific wood-style jutsu.

The Green-Hued jutsu: We don't know what this jutsu does, but based on the name alone, we can tell that this jutsu spreads green around it in some way or form, either in vegetation or through spores that paralyze the enemy.

Vegetation Jutsu: As the name suggests, it allows Moegi to produce vegetation around him and is one of the most basic jutsu within Wood Release that Hashirama Senju has used on various occasions.

With abilities like these, Moegi is a force to be reckoned with, and we absolutely can't wait to see what she's capable of later in Boruto: Two Blue Vortexes when she's given the spotlight to shine on her own. With two Shinju still remaining in Hidari and Jura, whose storyline began to be resolved in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 35 on June 18, 2026, Moegi has plenty of opportunities to shine in battle. After the fall of Shinju, there is also the threat of the Code as well as the potential rebirth of Akebi in Otsutsuki. This again opens up more opportunities for Moegi to showcase her Wood Release abilities and establish herself as the true successor to the First Hokage, Hashirama Senju.
