After Death Stranding and its upcoming sequel, FROM may be next in line as a follow-up release from Kojima Productions. So far, very little is known about it FROM and what it entails, but Hideo Kojima has confirmed that it is a horror story.
After Kojima Silent Hills was suddenly canceled by Konami, many were disappointed that a horror game created by the minds behind them Metal Gear would never happen. However, FROM will reignite enthusiasm for the Kojima-led horror story. In typical Hideo Kojima fashion, FROM it already looks like an experimental approach to the genre. So far, one of the few things known about the project is its cast. Starring actors Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer and Udo Kier FROMdisturbing first trailer, but there are also rumors that a former Kojima collaborator will play the role. Hideo Kojima may have found the terrifying inspiration for OD in The Substance
One of the best horror movies of the year
Rumors of Margaret Qualley's involvement in Hideo Kojima's horror project began circulating in 2022 after writer Tom Henderson announced the casting. While the game was rumored at the time to be called “Overdose”, the shortening to FROM might have given some weight to Henderson's claims. It's no secret that Kojima is a huge fan of pop culture. From film to music, he has been heavily inspired by many works. She also seems to pay close attention to the work of the actors she works with, and Margaret Qualley has made waves this year boasting three different projects.
- Drive-Away Dolls
- Kinds of Kindness
- Substance
While her other two performances were great, her role as Sue in Substance he really stood out. The gore-heavy satire is full of intense body horror that Kojima would probably have a field day with. Based on the trailer for FROMit seems like the game may be leaning into more psychological territory, but there's no telling what Kojima has in store. Depending on how far the psychological aspects are pushed, FROM he can still lend himself to plenty of body horror through hallucinations. Either way, Hideo Kojima's love of pop culture and admiration for the actors he works with probably means he saw Substanceand if so, it could well become a source of strong horror inspiration.

Hideo Kojima has dabbled in body horror before
As a tease for the now cancelled Silent Hillsbrought out Kojima PTthe viral “playable teaser” that is still the talk of horror fans. While minimal, PT was incredibly effective, with games like Face noticing its eerie atmosphere from a first-person perspective. Although PT doesn't transition into full-blown body horror, still dabbles; Lisa, the ghost that haunts the endless corridor, has a twisted face that was crushed when her husband stabbed her in the eye. Even more grotesque, however, is the squirming fetus lying in the bathroom.
OD remains mysterious but compelling
It's been almost a year now FROM has been announced and very little is still known about the game. As the wait continues, hopefully Kojima will soon shed more light on his horror project. With The Game Awards coming up, there's always a chance for a surprise update, but only time will tell.
