Blizzard fixes Overwatch performance issues on Switch 2

Blizzard has officially responded to the frame rate issues affecting Overwatch on Nintendo Switch 2. Overwatch saw a massive revival in 2026 after rebranding, introducing new heroes, and a host of other changes. The title is making waves in the gaming industry, attracting thousands of new players while welcoming back veterans who have left.

A key highlight of the 2026 hero shooter is its ongoing Reign of Talon storyline. Extension to Overwatch recently launched Reign of Talon Season 2, which introduces a new hero, several balance adjustments, a meta event, and a highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 port. However, the excitement surrounding the release of the handheld port quickly faded when players encountered performance issues. The game remains limited to 30 FPS, much like the original Switch version, and in some cases it does even worse. The community has been waiting for Blizzard to acknowledge the situation, and the developer has finally stepped in to fix the problem.

Blizzard aims to fix Overwatch performance issues on Switch 2

In a forum post, Blizzard responded to the performance issues Overwatch on the Nintendo Switch 2. The developer acknowledges that the game currently runs at a lower FPS limit than intended on the handheld. Blizzard said a patch is in the works to fix the issue, but no release window has been shared yet. It also highlighted several other issues reported by players, including not saving custom keybindings, Mystery Heroes settings not updating correctly, and cosmetic bugs.

One of the biggest demands from the party Overwatch community was to remove the 30 FPS limitation on Switch. So when Blizzard revealed the Switch 2 version, expectations were high as the developer promised improved visuals, improved sound quality, and support for up to 60 FPS in both handheld and docked modes. The goal was to provide a smoother experience for fans on the go. However, the release of the Switch 2 port has clearly fallen short of these expectations, leading to frustration among fans. Some gamers feel that the port offers little improvement over the original Switch version.

While Blizzard continues to work on performance fixes, players are still immersed in all the new content introduced in Reign of Talon Season 2. This includes Sierra, the latest addition to Overwatch list of heroes. He is a DPS hero that comes with a powerful rifle and unique abilities. The update also brings post-match awards, allowing players to recognize their teammates for contributions such as MVP, sportsmanship and overall performance.

Reign of Talon Season 2 also introduces improvements to the Map Voting system in Overwatch. Losing competitive matches on new or reworked maps now results in a reduced rank penalty. If most players choose a specific map, it will be automatically selected, and a new “Random Map” option has also been added to allow players to choose outside of the standard selection. With these changes, fans can't wait to see what Blizzard has planned for the upcoming updates.
