Once you start Chapter 2 by joining one of the camps, head to Swamp Camp and talk to Cor Kalom. Tell Cor Kalom that you are ready to get new quests from him and he will tell you about his assistant Caine who has gone missing. He won't give any details about his whereabouts, making the search even more difficult.

If this is your first time visiting this clan, ask Lester at the camp entrance to take you to Kalom's lab.

Where to find Caine's Hut in Swamp Camp in Gothic 1 Remake

Your first mission is to find Caine's hut. It's marked with a red dot on the map, but if you don't already have the Swamp Camp map, follow these instructions:

  • Start from the staircase that leads to Kalom's laboratory, and go towards the forge.

  • Cross the bridge on the opposite side of the forge, then turn right.

  • Drive past Baal Cadar and continue straight ahead.
  • You will cross two more wooden bridges until you reach the Herb Mashing Area where Baal Orun resides.

  • On the opposite side of the mashing area, there are two huts and between them a man smokes a hookah.

  • Caine's hut is the one on the left.

Now that you know Cain's hut, head inside and collect The Drawing of the Abandoned Mine from his room. It is placed on a box and picking it up is not considered theft.

You can talk to Nyras and Lester before going to the Abandoned Mine. The first is hanging around the fire near Caine's hut, and the second can be found at the entrance to Swamp Camp. These NPCs will provide some additional information about the Abandoned Mine.

How to get to the abandoned mine in Gothic 1 Remake

The The Abandoned Mine is located near the Exchange Zone, the same place where your journey began when you started the game. So, as you can guess, it is far. The red dot above shows the location of the entrance to the Abandoned Mine. However, if you don't have a colony map, follow these instructions:

  • Start from the north gate of the Old Camp. (We assume you know how to get from Swamp Camp to Old Camp)
  • Go over the bridge and then turn right. Follow the path straight until you see a wooden bridge.

  • Go under the bridge and then turn right to find the entrance to the mine.

Where to find Cain in Gothic 1 Remake

Once you arrive at the Abandoned Mine, an Orry guard will block your path and you will need to get around him:

  • If you are a member of the Old Camp, tell him that Raven is looking for him.
  • If you joined the Brotherhood, offer him Swampweed.

Either method will net you the key to the Abandoned Mine. The door is right behind Orry. Open it and go inside. Now continue along the railway until you reach a point where a pool of water covers the path. There is also a minecrawler a little further down the water. Kill it and then turn left and go through the small gate. You will find yourself next to a large lake.

Dive into the water and move towards the bottom of the lake. Once you're underwater, you'll see a star-shaped object on the opposite side. This is a gate opening device. Go grab it and then return to the surface of the lake. Now swim to the wooden dock on the far corner of the lake with the long ladder.

Climb up the ladder and turn left. Jump to the next wooden platform and install the gate device. Now open the gate. You can explore the upper platforms behind you for some resources before diving back into the water and going through the gate. But keep in mind that you will face some minecrawlers.

Once through the gate, return to the water level and continue along the railway again. You will soon reach another body of water. Climb down the ladder and dive. Under the water is a chest that contains steel, leather strips, iron, and some nuggets. Just below the waterfall you will find a path that can be followed to the other side.

When you're out of water again, continue along the path straight until you reach another flooded tunnel. Along the way, you'll encounter a couple of Molerates with a large Mother Molerate. You can ignore them and run if you don't feel well.

The next time you dive, you'll find two paths. The path to the right leads to the boss, so be prepared. However, take a quick detour to the path to the left for a free chest (you'll have to lock it though).

Since you are limited by oxygen, it would be quite difficult to solve the lockpick puzzle for the chest. So make sure you save the game manually before trying. To speed things up for you, below is the solution to the puzzle. Remember that the lock plates are numbered from bottom to top. So the first board is the bottom one and the sixth board is the top one.

If you follow the instructions above correctly, the chest will open. This includes sword Thorn of Wounds (18 Edge Damage)gold, iron, arrows (3x), ore nuggets (10x).

When you reach the next pool, climb out of the water and enter the temple. The Undead Orc, the boss you have to kill, is located here and is with the corpse of Caine.

How to beat an undead orc in Gothic 1 Remake

Undead Orc runs pretty fast. If you want to use a ranged weapon, you can do so while he is chasing you. Wait for him to launch his chain attack, then move away from him a bit and shoot arrows or arrows.

When using a melee weapon against an undead orc, wait for his chain attacks to end and then attack. This fight will take some time to finish and you have to be really patient or you will lose large chunks of HP.

One handed weapons are strongly recommended in this battlebecause they are quick to make attacks. The Undead Orc is an agile fighter that makes positioning very important.

Once the undead orc is dead, be sure to loot it Krush Path (50 Edge Damage) and Strange Amulet. Also loot Caine's Corpse for a Withered Axe, some Rice and Rice Spirits, and some Ore Nuggets.

Cor Kalom message in Gothic 1 Remake

You must return to the Swamp Camp to complete the quest, but you do not have to exit the Abandoned Mine the same way you entered. There is a staircase in the corners of the battle arena. Use them to reach a stone door with a face on it. Now use the strange amulet you looted from the undead Orc to open the door. This will lead to the roof of the Abandoned Mine.

If you move straight away from the waterfall and use the ledges, you can return to where you met Orry upon entering the mine. Find your way to Swamp Camp and report to Cor Kalom. This wraps up the quest, but you still have one more person to meet.

Head to the temple in Swamp Camp meet Y'Berion. If the guards stop you from entering, tell them Cor Kalom sent you. Y'Berion will explain the power of the strange amulet and give you a new task to find Focus stone.
