China launches rocket carrying new satellites

TAIPEI: China says it launched a rocket carrying a constellation of a reported 18 satellites on Tuesday as part of an effort to assert its presence in space. The satellites were launched aboard a Long March-6 launch vehicle from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in northern China's Shanxi province early Tuesday afternoon. The official Xinhua News Agency said the rocket reached its pre-programmed orbit without incident.
