There are plenty of things to do in Heartopia, but if you really want to get the full experience of the game, then one of the things you’ll want to invest some time into is hobbies. There are several hobbies to choose from, but some, like cooking, can benefit you more early on if you take the time to learn them.
To learn the cooking hobby, you’ll need to speak with its associated mentor, Massimo, who can be found in the middle of town. Once you’ve initiated the cooking hobby, all you need to do is get cooking and level up to increase your recipe list. However, to cook everything in Heartopia, you’ll need to participate in a few other hobbies as well.
How To Unlock The Cooking Hobby
As mentioned, if you’d like to learn to cook, then you’ll need to speak with Massimo and give them one of your Hobby Expansion Tickets. These tickets are rewarded through the Developer’s Guild. While your first two tickets must go to Fishing and Gardening, once you reach Level 5 of the DG, you’ll be able to choose between three different hobbies: Cooking, Insect Catching, and Birdwatching.
To level up in the DG quickly, be sure to complete all requests from the NPCs around town each day.
You can select any of the three options, but Cooking is recommended first since it pairs so well with both the Fishing hobby and the Gardening hobby you already have access to. If you don’t select Cooking, your next opportunities to do so will be Level 8 and Level 11. After handing over the ticket to Massimo, you’ll go over a brief introduction and may now begin cooking.

Heartopia: Complete Guide To Badges
Patience is unfortunately one of the biggest factors when it comes to unlocking all of Heartopia’s achievement badges.
How To Cook
Once you’ve unlocked the ability to cook, you’ll need some ingredients. Massimo does sell a handful of things, but the things you can make with only his ingredients are minimal. So, while you should purchase some of what he’s selling, you’ll also need to go out and find your own.
For the most part, the items that you’ll use for ingredients include crops you’ve grown in your garden, fish that you’ve caught, and things you can gather around Heartopia. So, before you head over to a stove, go ahead and collect as many of those things as you can. Once you have some things to cook, you can either place a stove in your home or cook at the one beside Massimo.
To cook, interact with a stove, and you’ll be prompted to select a recipe and ingredients. You’ll only see the recipes that you already know. There is no way to randomly insert ingredients without a recipe, so you won’t be able to strategically guess recipes by inputting random items like you can in other games, such as Disney Dreamlight Valley.
However, you can still produce variants of a recipe by inputting different available options within a recipe. For example, if you cook four tomatoes, then you’ll produce Tomato Sauce. However, if you swap those four tomatoes for any other fruit in Heartopia, you’ll produce a Jam of that flavor, and it will be considered a different recipe, even though it’s actually just a recipe variant.
You don’t have to produce variants, but it’s worth trying to do because they’ll earn you more points towards leveling up since they register as a new recipe. Plus, you’ll have more options if your ingredients are limited.
As for the actual cooking process, it is relatively straightforward. Once you’ve filled in a recipe, select the option to start cooking. While cooking, you’ll see a timer over the stove that is slowly filling up until the dish is ready. However, you won’t be able to abandon the dish entirely. While cooking, the timer will occasionally change to a spatula with a green circle counting down around it.
When you see this, you have until that circle around the spatula icon empties to tap it. If you do, you’ll adjust the cooking temperature and save the dish. If you don’t, the dish will burn, and you’ll be left with a Bizarre Food or Drink, which is just a nice way of saying that it’s a burned dish.
It’s worth burning at least one beverage and one food dish so you can get the discovery points for the new recipe. Just make sure it’s nothing with valuable ingredients.
Different dishes will have different times at which you’ll need to do this, and for most dishes, you’ll need to do it more than once. So it’s important that you stick close by until the dish is done completely.
All Recipes And How To Unlock Them
To unlock new recipes that aren’t just variants of pre-existing recipes, you’ll need to level up your cooking hobby. To do this, you’ll need Hobby Upgrade Tickets, which can be earned as a reward through various tasks in Heartopia, including the DG. Once you have the necessary tickets, however, you’ll also need to have participated in the hobby enough to level up.
When you open your hobby icon on the watch and select Cooking, you should see a meter at the bottom of the screen. This indicates how much more cooking you’ll need to do before you can level up. That said, don’t misinterpret this as how many dishes you need to cook, because that’s not what it means.
When you cook something, you’ll see that you’ve earned a set amount of experience points, which is what counts towards the meter. So, if you cook a new dish and get over 20 points, then 20 points will be added to your meter. Even dishes you’ve already cooked will generally reward a few points each time.
To make a variant of a recipe, select any version of that recipe and then tap the swap icon over each ingredient. This will open a new window where you can view the options that can replace what you currently have. You’ll need to tap each ingredient you would like to swap out.

Where To Get Ingredients
Several of the recipes you can make in Heartopia require you to work on other hobbies as well. So simply upgrading your cooking won’t be enough to unlock all the recipes. For example, when you unlock the ability to make Mushroom Pie, you’ll find that you need Wheat, but if you haven’t leveled up your Gardening, you won’t be able to purchase the Wheat seeds you need.
So, you’ll need to be sure that you’re staying on top of all your hobbies in Heartopia if you want to avoid being locked out of things. Normally, things are scaled so that as long as you’re around the same level in each hobby, you should always be able to access what you need. So this will only become an issue if you heavily focus on one hobby over the others.
For most of the vegetables you’ll need, the seeds must be purchased from Blanc once you’ve reached the corresponding level. For the fruit, you can find them naturally throughout Heartopia. You won’t be directed towards it, though, so you will actually need to seek it out yourself. The same goes for fungi. Massimo will lead you to the first one, but the other variants will need to be discovered by you.
For fungi specifically, each directional region of the map (North, East, South, and West) has a different type that is unique to that area, and you can primarily find the fungi next to trees in each area. The only exception is Truffles, which appear as mounds of dirt on Forest Island exclusively.
The fish and shellfish in the recipes are those that are caught in any body of water in Heartopia. Again, leveling up your Fishing hobby will increase your odds for better fish and more varieties. Finally, for the dairy and baking ingredients, you’ll purchase most of those directly from Massimo. He has a daily limit, but it resets, so there’s no need to worry about running out.
In addition to Massimo, there is one other vendor you’ll want to speak with, specifically regarding baking, and that’s Doris. Doris is a traveling merchant who only appears under specific conditions, and she is where you can purchase rare recipes and ingredients.
How To Find Doris
As previously mentioned, a traveling merchant named Doris is how you will acquire some of the rarest recipes and ingredients in the game. Unfortunately, Doris is only available in Heartopia during unique weather events such as Meteor Showers, Snowfall, Rain, and a Rainbow, which is why her recipes are so rare.
Doris mostly accepts Star Fragments as payment, so be sure to have some available before you waste time seeking her out.
When it is raining or snowing, you can find Doris on one of the streets in the middle of town. Look for the one with large paint tubes and other art materials on it. When there is a rainbow, you can find Doris at the end of it like a surprise pot of gold. Finally, when there is a meteor shower at night, you can find her on Onsen Mountain.
Keep in mind that she will always have different ingredients depending on her location and the weather, so she won’t always have everything you need. If you can, you should buy out her supply of ingredients when you encounter her. To verify the current weather, all you need to do is open up your map and look in the upper-right corner.
To check the upcoming weather so you can anticipate when Doris will visit, tap on your watch, and you should see a weather symbol next to the time. Click the weather symbol to see a full 7-day forecast. This will tell you what days you can expect rain, rainbows, meteor showers, and more.
Keep in mind, actively snowy weather is not the same as snowy conditions in Heartopia. During winter, Heartopia may always have snow covering its landscapes. However, unless the weather indicates active snowfall, which you can also clearly see while walking around, it doesn’t count for Doris.
