One of the best and most popular parts Dragon Ball Super was the fact that this entry in the franchise really expanded the universe of the series. The introduction of Beerus and Whis introduced the concept of Gods of Destruction and Angels, which was further explained with regards to the multiverse of which there are 12 in total, each ruled by their own God of Destruction with an angel.
However, episode 10 Dragon Ball Daima revealed new information about the multiverse concept in the franchise. Here, many previously unknown and established things about the creation of everything were challenged, as beings that were unbelievably ancient and incomprehensibly powerful were teased for the first time. So let's go through the new status Dragon Ball multiverse and see how different it is from what fans previously thought.

What used to be believed
The multiverse concept before Daima
Although the concept of a multiverse was first shown in Cool and it was also widespread, almost nothing was said about its history or how it came into being. In total, there are currently 12 separate universes, each ruled by their own Supreme Kais and Gods of Destruction, and are numbered as such. The surviving universes existed in pairs, the total number of these pairs being 13, i.e. Universes 1 and 12, 6 and 7, 3 and 10, and so on.
The entire multiverse is ruled by the Great Zeno, a being of unlimited destructive power who can wipe out entire universes with very little effort. Known as the Omni-King, Zeno was introduced as the highest authority in existence, although his personality is very childlike and innocent, which is why Goku was able to befriend him. Befitting his power, Zeno is generally indifferent to life, as he can easily destroy entire timelines.
I will destroy everything. All of existence… Begin!
In the distant past, there were originally a total of 18 universes. However, Zeno deleted 5 of them because he was upset that he had to keep track of so many and that these few had very low lethality levels. Although Zeno planned to purge even the weakest of the remaining universes, a Tournament of Power was held instead, where each was given a chance to survive.
As for the individual universes, they are ruled by the Supreme Kais and the God of Destruction, who are responsible for creating life and wiping it out in order to further the universe. Each Destroyer God is accompanied by an angel who acts as their teacher and is tasked with making sure they do their job adequately. So in the case of the multiverse, Zeno was the highest imaginable authority.

The first of the biggest revelations from Daima he came up with the fact that the Demon Realm was incredibly ancient. So ancient in fact that it predates the entire multiverse as it was explained that this realm existed long before anything else outside of it. While it remains a mystery how old it really is, it can be traced back as the primary source of everything that came later.
Once upon a time, there was a Supreme Demon King who was generally regarded as a benevolent ruler. Although his true name was never revealed, he was only known as the 'good' Supreme Demon King and sought to expand the borders of the Demon Realm. To this end, he created a being known as Majin Rymus and gave it the power to create a multiverse outside of their home realm and rule over it as supreme authority.
Rymus then created the multiverse so that many of the Demon Realm's residents could move out, thus the Namekians ended up in Universes 6 and 7. In addition to overseeing the events of each universe, Rymus selected members of the Demon Realm. Glind race to rule over the mortals of their universe, who were known as the Supreme Kais. However, after the reign of the good Supreme Demon King ended, the eventual successor restricted the passage to and from the Demon Realm.
This reveal doesn't contradict the established lore of the series, it just adds more groundwork to build on in the future. Many have even talked about Rymus' resemblance to Zenon, suggesting that he could serve the role of the highest level “Kai” in the multiverse, with Zeno from the God of Destruction and the High Priest as a serving angel, while others believe that Zeno may even be an impostor posing as for the highest authority. So as the lore of the multiverse grows, so do the possibilities of where the series could go in the future, which adds greatly to the world building Dragon Ball.
Dragon Ball can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
