Gears of War: E-Day kicked off the recent Xbox Games Showcase and it looks pretty awesome. A dramatic cinematic trailer was released in 2024, but this year's Xbox Games Showcase finally offered a small glimpse into the gameplay and horrors of what happened on Emergence Day. Gears of War: E-Day lifts the veil on the most important piece Gears of Warand it will be exciting to see Marcus and Dom back in action.
View of Gears of War: E-Day featured Marcus, Dom, and other soldiers running through the chaotic streets of Kalona, trying to save civilians and fight their way through Locust attacks. In addition, a Gears of War: E-Day release date has been confirmed for October 6. It was extra exciting, but there's one thing I can't get out of my head ever since I saw the footage: Marcus and Dom in street clothes just feels wrong.

After the Gears of War: E-Day demo, I wish I hadn't seen Marcus and Dom in normal clothes
I'm clearly joking (sort of) about the duo's shocking new look in the new trailer, but honestly, it was pretty jarring at first. Yes, this is a prequel and Marcus and Dom were just trying to live their normal lives when the Locust Horde emerged from the depths of Sera. The civilian clothes make sense of the story, but it's jarring nonetheless.

For some reason, Marcus' appearance is the most shocking of them all. It almost looks like it Days gone's Deacon St. John if he came across a supply of human growth hormone in the zombie apocalypse. Dom still looks strange at first glance, but his features don't seem as exaggerated by normal clothes as Marcus.
Marcus and Dom have always been like the Hulk
One of the defining features Gears of WarThe art style is exaggerated character bodies. Marcus and Dom have always been comically great. The main thing that helps keep it from looking so weird is the fact that they've also traditionally been shown in huge sets of armor. Gears of War games.
Ridiculously oversized armor helps balance everything out. It plays to the power fantasy that playing as Marcus often has. When you strip him and Dom of their armor, it's very clear how strange Coalition soldiers look in everyday situations. When you see Marcus stomping around the ruined streets of Kalon, it looks like he's a mini version of the Hulk running around with a giant gun. Have huge weapons inside Gears of War it certainly requires a lot of muscle, but E-Day in the trailer i asked if marcus, dom and the other soldiers had to have their outfits custom made.
A lot of gamers were surprised at the Xbox Games Showcase when this was revealed Gears of War: E-Day is an Xbox console exclusive. After last year's Gears of War: Reloaded when the series was first available on the PlayStation console, the Xbox was expected to continue the trend E-Day. Xbox has been pushing back on its plans to ditch exclusivity, and the decision was one of the biggest examples of the company sticking to a new direction.
Marcus Fenix's time in streetwear will more than likely be short-lived
Fighting for survival in his brown suede jacket and jeans, Marcus probably won't last long. As the Locust threat worsens, it will inevitably be time for him and Dom to suit up. It has already been confirmed that these two will have to don armor at some point in the story. First Gears of War: E-Day the trailer showed Marcus and Dom in all their iconic gear. So fans who were also surprised to see them looking like juggernauts living among the people of Sera will probably only have to see them in this state for a few moments.
Jacket-wearing Marcus is still far from a deal breaker
Even though Marcus is in his everyday clothes for most of the story, it's not like I'm going to avoid buying the game because of it. It's just that after growing up with the franchise, the idea of playing as Gears of WarMarcus Fenix without being covered in a giant metal suit is a change that I was not quite ready for. It makes perfect sense in retrospect. In fact, it would be even weirder if he was gallivanting all over Kalona in full armor before the invasion he should be worried about happened.
Netflix is currently working on a live event Gears of War movie, but the cast and release date have yet to be announced.
Getting used to Marcus and Dom's new look will probably be quicker than expected
Once the Locust Horde appears and it's time to break through Kalona, the weirdness of Marcus and Dom in jeans will more than likely fade quickly in most players' minds. Maybe it's not even something that might concern newbies Gears of War the franchises even notice because they are not used to seeing the duo in such specific outfits. This will likely be the entry point for many players who decide to try out the game at launch. In the past Gears of War games, Marcus and Dom were actually bigger so their E-Day the proposals could have been even more shocking.

Streetwear can be surprising, but it's a great way to remind longtime fans that they once expected to live normal lives before the Locust Horde threw everything into chaos.
