Other God of War The game has been shrouded in mystery for quite some time, as developers Santa Monica Studio have been really tight-lipped about its development. At this point, virtually nothing is known about where the chapter will go. This paved the way for many rumors and theories to emerge while players wait for an official announcement God of War news. The biggest question of all is who will lead the story.
The rest of this article will contain spoilers for God of War and its continuation Ragnarok.
Kratos and Atreus split up at the end Ragnarokand it raised a lot of questions about whether the next chapter will follow Atreus, Kratos, or continue to bounce back and forth between the two. With theories and hopes that next time God of War the game's setting features a new pantheon of gods, many fans have speculated that the father-son duo going their separate ways could open the door to new mythologies. A new pantheon may be on the table, but the game's protagonist could be someone many didn't expect. Kratos' dead wife Faye is rumored to lead the next chapter. All rumors should be met with skepticism, but Faye potentially being the main character is only scratching the surface.
Every God Of War game, rated
God of War Santa Monica studio has created many great games. Naturally, some of Kratos' gory PlayStation adventures are better than others.
Rumor has it that Faye will lead a new story, but she won't be alone
If the recent rumors turn out to be true, then another God of War will star Faye and Tyr as dual protagonists. Since Tyr is the Norse God of War, it would still make sense for the game to be under the name of the franchise. It's also safe to assume that this would be a prequel since Faye was dead in the Norse saga timeline. A glimpse into the realm before Kratos's arrival could be a fascinating and unexpected twist for the series, allowing a little more time in the Norse pantheon before fully plunging into the new location.
What's even more interesting about these rumors is imagining Faye and Tyro's dynamic as a dual lead. All fans really know about Faye is through Kratos' flashbacks, so her relationships outside of that are a deep well to draw from. Fay's scenes in God of War Ragnarok they are short-lived, but she is a vital part of the story. Tyr gets more screen time Ragnarokbut there is still so much to explore with him now that Odin is no longer using his likeness as a disguise. Being able to see how such compelling characters would work together is one of the many aspects of what makes these rumors so exciting.
The gameplay is also said to be different from the recent one God of War games by being more action oriented. The series is already pretty action-packed, so it's not really clear how a Faye and Tyra game would take it further.
The multiple theories of the pantheon may have been right all along
Ragnarok'with Valhalla The DLC was what originally sparked the rumors about the future God of War games would discover new worlds. Valhalla wasn't just a fun roguelike expansion that brought more action for fans. It was a well-done chapter in Krato's journey of self-acceptance and forgiveness. Finally coming to terms with his past, Kratos brings the character to a new point of growth that makes it feel like his time at the helm of the series is almost over. Additionally, the various DLC fights with Tyr could have hinted at different mythologies all along.
Players can take on Tyr in several big fights, and many fans have quickly noticed that his arsenal evolves in these encounters. His spear and shield are far from the only items used, but what makes the variety of weapons so interesting is that they are not Norse at all. The act of beating Tyr God of War Ragnarok is a challenge and its array of diverse weapons keeps players on their toes.

Tyr used such weapons to convince some players that these were the pantheons to explore next. According to some pieces by Faye God of War Rumors, Mayan and Japanese culture are expected to be part of the story. If this is true, then Egyptian gods and myths are probably present here as well. There was hope for the Egyptian God of War game for a long time. This rumored game may not be what some fans envisioned with the addition of Egyptian gods, but it would still be incredibly exciting.
Merlin could join the party alongside a bizarre companion
When it comes to companions and supporting characters, this Faye-led story can go down a really miserable path. The most detailed bits of these rumors are about the protagonists and potential pantheons, but there have been some interesting claims about the supporting cast. A floating sword could appear, which is actually the wizard Merlin, while a companion character who is a “gelatin cube” helps players along the way. At this point, it's really hard to tell what exactly the leaks mean by the term “gelatin cube,” but it definitely plays up to a funny weirdness, God of WarThe Nordic saga is full. The series is no stranger to swords. These claims by Merlin sound a lot like Atreus' sword Ingrid, while the “gelatin cube” could serve as a humorous Mimir-like character.
The next God of War game could be announced as early as this month
It is rumored that a lot God of War fans hope it's true. What makes this claim the most interesting of all is that it comes from a solid expert in the field. Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson recently mentioned on the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast that God of War announcement in April 2026 is possible.
Henderson specifically mentioned that it is expected to be the next entry in the main line. This year has already surprised the players God of War Sons of Sparta casting shadows and confirming the original trilogy remaster. If Santa Monica Studio followed it up with an even bigger reveal, that would be it God of War the news that fans have been waiting for so long. April is already halfway over, so only time will tell. However, if Sony's April 2026 State of Play is announced soon, God of War fans will want to check it out to see if the rumors are true.
