Hollow Knight: Silksong is much more brutal than any of us expected, and it seems that high difficulty results in a negative review of steam than you could expect.
During the last six years of waiting for a hollow knight: Silksong, we didn't really know about the game. We saw several characters and parts of the world, but the Cherry team deliberately maintained very silence about what to expect from the sequel. Now that we all had a chance to dive at the beginning of this week, it turned out that what we could expect was pain.
As I'm sure you have found almost everyone, Silksong is much harder than the original game in almost all directions. Platforming is much more complicated (especially with a diagonal reflection), some enemies hit twice as hard and it seems that the game is always out to get you with small tricks and traps. It's a lot and it seems to be too much for some players.
Silksong may actually be too difficult for your own good
Who would guess that it lands on “very positive” reviews?
Above the Hollow Knight Subreddit, Peaky_circus shared a post that pointed out that Silksong has much more negative reviews than the original game since the time, with 92 percent of reviews positive compared to 96 percent of Hollow Knight. A quick view of negative reviews explains why it is a little more criticized than the original game.
There are currently nearly 20,000 negative reviews for Hollow Knight: Silksong, and although I am sure most Of these, they just try to overthrow a huge moment while playing, there are some legitimate complaints. Almost everyone is focused on the brutal difficulties of the game, and many say that the game now feels unfair.
Most complaints are things we have emphasized earlier, such as enemies with double damage and complex platforms, but there are also references to the “rare” currencies of the game, stunning bosses' battles, and even the charm that some think it is compared to the first game.
One of my favorite negative reviews simply says: “Hunter's March”. Yeah, I feel it.
All these problems work together to make Silksong a much penalty game and it seems to be too much for some players. One review of Steam from User Hotel Wifi best states: “I absolutely love the hollow knight, I want to love Silksong. The challenge is just honestly too much”.
