10 awesome roguelikes that don't require internet
Above all, Roguelikes are addictive! So don't hold back on your fun, here are 10 that don't need a stable connection to play.
As the last cast member in the game, unlocking the chain master can take some effort. You'll need a good understanding of the existing game mechanics before you can play as this character, whose skills also depend on a combination of different approaches taught by the other cast members. Here's how to unlock them and master their skills.
Unlocking Chain Master
The chain master is unlocked by using beat the third day on any character. At this level you have two additional difficulty modifiers:
-
Elite enemies may appear.
-
Consumables drop less frequently.
Elite enemies have changed palettes, additional HP and special effects. Everyone has a a symbol showing what their elite effect issuch as acting faster, attacking twice, or ignoring forced movement. The reactive shield is the biggest threat because it can resist the normal math method of killing blows.
You will feel the difference in the drop rate of consumables if you have been dependent on them until now.
Days only unlock for each character, so you'll usually want to focus on one character and clear as many days as possible with them.
Character |
Difficulty |
---|---|
Pilgrim |
The rogue core set is efficient and consistent, and you don't have to worry about unlocking other characters. |
Ronin |
Ronin has a steeper learning curve and the small amount of damage from pushing them can accidentally detonated the reactive shields on elite enemies. |
Shadow |
Shadow's unique movement style means they have fewer skills that translate into learning other characters. |
Jujitsu |
Jujitsuka only unlocks after day two, meaning you'd have to play through those days again before trying day three. Her similar playstyle to chainmaster making it a good choice for learning. |
A tramp is the optimal choice for the third day settlement, as the others have unlock conditions that you will achieve along the way.
Chain Master Playstyle
The chain master plays a bit differently than the rogue, so you'll want to take a few moments with it check out their kit before jumping into the running.
The chain master's unique ability is spin enemies from side to side. This doesn't change the direction they're facing, meaning you'll be able to reliably make enemies on one side attack their friends on the other side. Can be used when enemies are on both sides and exchange positions. It cannot be used while standing on edge or next to a heavy enemy.
A chain has two starting sets of tiles, both of which can benefit from an exchange roll. You can unlock the second set of tiles by collecting three achievement stamps while playing for them. The chain master set allows them to collect combo and move stamps along with the basic stamp obtained from defeating the Shogun.

Meteor Hammer, Charge |

Meteor Hammer has a very high cooldown. You will remain vulnerable between your attacks. |
B |
Twin Tessen, Hookblade |
Twin tessen is a powerful positioning tool while Hookblade is capable of pulling off big combo kills once upgraded. |
Your initial damage is limited. You will often rely on the first enemies to kill each other. |

Key tiles and upgrades for Chains
Chainmaster is looking for a few specific tools to enhance his starter kit and this can determine the route you take.
Combo focused buffs work great on the main chain. Meteor Hammer can hit and kill two enemies at once, easily activating any passive skills that rely on combos. If you get a double hit upgrade on it, it can activate three hit combos needed for stronger combo skills.
When choosing routes, favor warring and combined trades. Dancer upgrades are the least useful as most of them provide minimal bonuses to your swap.
Upgrading tiles you'll want to spend on upgrading your main attack, either meteor hammer or hook blade, and deal him as much damage as possible.
The the combo recharge skill will allow you to use this attack often even on a long cooldown. Both attacks can reliably activate it.
Perfect Strike is an alternative way to upgrade the meteor hammer. Since it can hit multiple enemies, it has a high chance to reset cooldown with precision kills, but that requires you to limit how many damage buffs you give him.
The the free upgrade works well on a loaded tessen tile or twowhich gives you an emergency tool for escaping or knocking enemies out of attack range. Freeze upgrades are another strong option to prevent damage, but they won't work against later bosses.
When you get extra tiles, you want to look primarily at tools that allow for more combos, and secondly for mobility tools that can get you out of harm's way:
- A sharp turn naturally fits into a three-punch combo when paired with charge and meteor hammer. Dash into the enemy, turn and hit a second before finishing off the first enemy with a meteor hammer backswing. The hammer-spin attack is also an effective way to attack and then run away in the same turn.
-
Lightning and Earth Impale are great attacks to complement alternate charges. They bypass the front enemy assemble groups of weakened enemies for the hook blade. They can also deal with troublesome attackers from a distance.
- Nagiboku is the best tool for setting up comboshits four tiles and does not reduce enemies below one health.
-
Enemy relocation tools can be used at the end of a combo to deflect incoming attacks or in the middle to set up a third attack token.
