This Summoning Altar guide has been updated with more information about Pal Plates and Plate Fragments. In Palworld you will also find easily accessible places to fight raid bosses.
How to unlock the Summoning Altar and build it
Summoning Altar is an ancient technology unlockable at 33 inches Palworld. After reaching level 33, you can spend three ancient technology points to unlock a construction recipe. The easiest way to get ancient technology points is to defeat the alpha buddies found on the Palpagos Islands. If you're up for the challenge, don't hesitate to fight the tower's powerful bosses to get five points of ancient technology the first time you defeat them.
Once you've unlocked the Summoning Altar, you'll need the following items to build it:
- 100 stones
- 20 paldium shards
The Summoning Altar is located in the Other tab of the Build menu. It is important to consider where you will place the altar. While it may be tempting to place it in the main base for convenience, this is not recommended. Instead, it is advisable to reserve a separate base specifically for summoning and fighting raid bosses. Palworld allows you to create up to three bases by creating a Palbox.
This strategic decision is crucial because raid bosses can wreak havoc on your base. By keeping your main base separate, you can protect it from the potential destruction guaranteed during a boss fight. An open area is ideal for building a Summoning Altar, as you'll have enough space to move around freely and let your powerful buddies fight the boss without getting stuck in odd places.
How to get Altar Summoning Plates
If you find yourself missing the necessary boards to summon a raid boss, you will need to harvest board fragments. These rare items are often found as rewards in chests scattered throughout dungeons and open world areas such as nature reserves.
For lower level raid bosses like Eclipsed Siren Bellanoir, look for slab shards in dungeons in early game areas like Windswept Hills and Sea Breeze Archipelago. For high-level bosses like Twilight Siren Bellanoir Libero, explore dungeons and areas like Mount Obsidian, the Desiccated Desert, and the Astral Mountains. Defeating Twilight Siren Bellanoir Libero discards the board to summon an even more formidable variant of the same raid boss.
In addition to Bellanoir, you can also find plate shards to summon Blazamut Ryu, a raid boss variant of the fiery Blazamut. Blazamut Ryu is a Dragon/Fire buddy with access to powerful attacks like Magna Crush and Brawn Impact, while also having the exclusive Eternal Flame skill which boosts Fire and Lightning attacks by 30%. You can pass this passive skill on to other buddies through breeding to improve their attack. Blazamut Ryu Plate Shards can be found inside chests found in the Mount Obsidian, Dried Desert, Astral Mountains, and Sakurajima Island dungeons.
Once you've collected the four board shards, head to the workbench or production assembly line to assemble the board. Fortunately, unlocking the recipe to summon the plate Palworld it doesn't require any points, but remember that the recipe will only be visible if you have at least one plate fragment in your inventory. As for the Ultra slab fragments, they can only be obtained by defeating the regular raid boss.
How to use the Summoning Altar to start a raid
Once you have built the Summoning Altar, the next step is to create a Pal board to start the summoning ritual for the raid boss. Simply place the board in the Summoning Altar and select 'Summon Powerful Pal'. Palworld prompts you for confirmation before summoning the boss and starting the raid, ensuring you're ready for the encounter.
During the raid you will have 10 minutes to defeat the boss or you will lose both the challenge and the Pal slab used to start the raid. You will also lose the raid if the Palbox is destroyed, so try to lure the raid boss away from it.
Once you start a raid boss battle, there's no turning back Palworld. It is recommended to prepare an army of 25 strong high level friends. Five of them will be part of your team and you can call the rest to your friend base. You can prepare more buddies as many of them will probably die during the fight and you may need to replace them with a Palbox.
The best places to build a summoning altar and fight Raid bosses
Fighting the raid boss is not an easy task. In most cases, the raid boss will wipe out every friend and building near the Palbox. For this reason, it is important to choose carefully where to build your Summoning Altar and start your raid. Because of the unpleasant movement of friends inside Palworldit is advisable to look for flat surfaces for raid boss battles. Fortunately, Palworld offers several such places. Here are some great places to fight the raid boss:
The west coast of the Forgotten Isle
Forgotten Island is one of the regions suitable for beginners Palworld. Its west coast features a long, flat beach that's perfect for raid boss battles. You can also use the small island with a fast travel point, Forgotten Island, as a base for raids, although the limited space may limit the movement of your buddies.
Open area north of Lv. 15 Penking Alpha Boss
The Lv. 15 Penking is one of the first few alpha bosses you'll encounter Palworld due to its low level and early availability. North of the boss room you'll find a large open area. Even though there are many pieces of rock scattered around, your friends should be able to maneuver around them and fight the raid boss without too much trouble.
East of Black Marketeer on Eastern Wild Island
In the far east of the Palpagos archipelago, you will come across the Eastern Wild Island. This island is home to two powerful Alpha bosses, Mossanda Lux and Wumpo Botan, as well as a black merchant. Just east of the Black Marketeer is a large open area in the hills, perfect for a raid boss fight. Be careful though because the boss might fall down the hill.
