Marathon fans and detractors alike have watched its Steam players count like hawks as it has remained the most searched game on SteamDB since its release. While those thrashing Marathon they are hoping that the number of players will drop even more because they are strangely hoping that the game will fail, those who are addicted to fighting UESC and other players for the loot are hoping for a big turn. While Bungie and Sony made the first attempt at sparking Marathon a renaissance through sales across all platforms, season 2 being a hit would greatly increase the number of players.
While a fair amount of content is already confirmed for Marathon Season 2 – a new Runner called Sentinel, a night version of Dire Marsh, and a Cradle that will allow for deeper improvements to Shell's stats – there's room for some big quality-of-life changes and test results to show up. If Bungie is smart about how they handle the Season 2 content drop, then MarathonPlayer numbers could begin to rise, allowing the game to recover before more drastic steps like a free-to-play release are attempted. With core gameplay and lore Marathon as stellar as it is, Season 2 will hopefully solve its only real problem: maintaining a large player base.
Like other extraction shooters, Marathon they will have seasonal resets, with upgrades removed and vaults emptied to level the playing field.
Marathon releases patch notes for the April 21st update
Bungie is releasing update 1.0.6.1 for Marathon, which in addition to major nerfs for the popular WSTR shotgun, makes a number of adjustments to the game.
Marathon's permanent experimental playlists
Since its release, Marathon tests the community's most requested ways to play through some temporary playlists that rotate in and out. Duo queues on different maps and sponsored kit-only queues on Dire Marsh were big hits, with the former benefiting from players only having one friend to play with, and the latter creating a more fair battle royale gameplay loop. Hopefully season 2 will ensure that the pair always have a way to play together. And as for Sponsored Kits, it could serve as a great free-to-play experience instead of the entire game being free. This way players on the fence around Marathon they could try it out alongside their friends and experience the game in the fairest and most accessible way possible. They could be allowed to play any map that is in the set's sponsored rotation for the week, and their vault could be inaccessible until they buy the full game, allowing them to set themselves up for success whenever they want to buy.

Improvements to Marathon scoring mode
While Bungie tries to crack down on the cheaters that have become infested Marathon's rated games, there are some issues that still need to be resolved. First, some new obstacles must be put in place to prevent players from getting to Pinnacle. Second, and more importantly, ranked matchmaking needs to be overhauled. While this may be due to population issues, it's not uncommon for players to run into gold when they're in bronze 3, fights that are unsurprisingly one-sided due to the difference in equipment and skills. Even if the matching time is longer, maintain Marathon Ranked matches limited to the same level would be a welcome adjustment. Equipment caps on top of equipment requirements could prevent players from being overequipped and keep the playing field level.
Clan system with shared vault
Given the existence Fate 2It's surprising that the 's Clan system, which provides upgrades to grind and some bonus rewards that can be collected every week, is surprising that there isn't one Marathon still. This could work especially well for an extraction shooter, as players could be given a large shared vault to donate items to. Whatever players extract (or perhaps put into DCON to give the device a purpose outside of contracts) could appear in a clan vault that all players in the clan could draw from at will. In this way, players who have obtained their upgrades can donate materials such as Biolens Seeds to their friends who are either down on their luck or have less time to play, ensuring that they can equip themselves properly whenever they need it. Weapons, shields and so on can also be donated, essentially allowing players to trade between those they trust. Perhaps there could be a limit on the daily value of an item so that players don't take too much, or perhaps they have to donate a set value before drawing from the clan vault. Either way, it would be an incredible addition.
We bring you the latest information about the 3rd season of the marathon
Finally, and perhaps more important than any addition to the actual game that might be made in Season 2, Bungie needs to prove Marathon fans that he really plans to stick with the game for “years.” Or more specifically, that Sony will allow it to retain support for the long haul. Removing the redacted label from Season 3 and detailing whatever will eventually become its new content — a brand new full-size map like Cryo, weather variants for existing maps, more Shell types, or crossover Runner skins — would go a long way to reassuring fans that they have something to look forward to. The fastest way to relieve fans of worry and silence MarathonThe doubters would like to show that Season 3 (and possibly several more after that) is actively in the works and will still be released. While those hoping for a brand new map in Season 2 are out of luck, that doesn't mean the season can't do the game a world of good.
