Carl will experience the racing game genre
Book eight entitled horror show it was confirmed that he saw Carl tackle the tenth and seemingly eleventh floor of his eighteen-story odyssey. Each previous dungeon floor featured a unique theme, often inspired by different video game genres, such as the open world of the third floor or pokemon-like trading card battles – complete with cards so rare they could sell for millions of dollars – located on the 8th floor.
The tenth floor has been confirmed to focus on winning races and upgrading vehicles between races, which Carl and Donut find “a bit normal, a bit too easy” according to the trailer summary. However, nothing in the world is ever simple Dungeon Crawler Carl, so there is likely to be some twist. Maybe the crawlers will be able to attack each other with their vehicle upgrades, like Mad Max movies. Alternatively, Carl and his allies could obtain items to use against their opponents, but these are considerably more lethal than the standard Mario Kart bananas and blue shells. Since Dinniman's original working title for Book 8 was “Carl's Book of Boom”, it seems likely that explosions will be involved to some extent.
What is a horror show?
According to the trailers, even the showrunners of the deadly game show Carl is on don't actually know what the Parade is – but the Dungeon AI, which has become increasingly glitchy over the past few books, refers to it as a “coming-out party for the ages.”
The Book 8 synopsis also states that Carl is planning his own party, but he can't tell his friends, not even Donut. He also states that the stakes are even higher than Carl's or Donut's demise.
Speculation on social media sites like Reddit has been the order of the day for the past few months. Some users believe that the “Show of Horrors” will include an artificial intelligence that will introduce the world to the mechanics, monsters and other dangers of the Dungeon. Others point out that the phrase “parade of horrors” is used to refer to actual parades of individuals in grotesque costumes and suggest that this could be a boss rush level – perhaps an even more extreme version of the multi-boss challenge that appears on the fifth floor.
Notably, Dinniman, who posts on Reddit under the username hepafilter, referred to “the 11th floor” in quotes in one post, suggesting that it might be something particularly sinister — or perhaps that it might not be a traditional “floor” at all. Alternatively, Carl has skipped Dungeon floors before, especially the seventh one, so something like this might happen again.
