Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 promises “grounded” cosmetics and co-op

Following the reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Infinity Ward looks at how the studio plans to handle future cosmetics and co-op.

Will Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 have SBMM?

However, since this is primarily an online experience, fans were curious as to how this matchmaking would be handled. Call of Duty is no stranger to the SBMM dispute, p Black Ops 7 experiencing several rounds of fan frustration. While Activision or Infinity Ward have yet to comment on the status of SBMM Modern Warfare 4news is apparently on the way. To get ahead of the story, Infinity Ward co-studio boss Mark Grigsby responded to a fan who asked about SBMM. According to Grigsby, the studio is preparing to be transparent about this side of the game and promises that all will be revealed soon.

Although Grigsby didn't offer any specifics at this point, it seems like the recognition was generally well received by players. Responses to Grigsby have ranged from hoping that Infinity Ward has found a solution, some in awe that a studio head is actually answering such a question, to others taking the opportunity to ask more questions about potential features. It's clear that many are hoping that Infinity Ward will bring back the open-style matchmaking used in previous versions of the game.

For multiplayer-style games, skill-based matchmaking is primarily used to pair up players of a similar level, ultimately resulting in matches that can feel more competitive. However, many players seem to want a more random experience, saving the high-skill matches for more competitive modes like Ranked. Controversy over this feature in Call of Duty she has been so loud over the years Black Ops 7 even announced that it was dumping SBMM before it was released. The game attempted to use some kind of open matchmaking system, though fans doubted whether Treyarch would eventually remove SBMM entirely.

Zeal over this feature has since become an important selling point for many games, p Battlefield 6 addressing SBMM before launch and clarifying that it is not solely reliant on it as it is only one part of a much larger system. Many games like Apex Legends and Fortnite they've even modified or added new game modes that don't use it at all as a test base or based on player feedback.
