Official Pokemon donuts revealed, but there's a catch

Key things

  • Pokemon and Mister Donut in Japan are offering Pikachu, Diglett and Pokeball themed donuts starting at $1.44.
  • Collaborations between Pokemon and donut chains happen every year, but the official donuts aren't available in the US.
  • Fans have created Pokemon themed donuts. While American fans remain hopeful, the latest collaboration in Japan is in full swing.

Pokemon works with a donut shop to create new donuts, but they are only available in Japan. It is the latest collaboration between Pokemon and Mister Donut, a popular Japanese donut chain.

Official Pokemon donuts have been introduced as limited collaborations almost every year, with popular series like Pikachu, Psyduck, and Jigglypuff getting the donut treatment over the years. Records tend to vary, though as the mascot of the series, Pikachu is almost always available when these collaborations take place.

Leaked Pokemon Series Timeline Explained

The recently leaked information gives Pokemon fans a better understanding of the series' complex timeline, and it's a lot to talk about.

This year, Mr. Donut and Pokemon revealed their latest collaboration, introducing a pair of Pikachu-themed donuts, a Diglett-themed donut, and a Pokeball donut. The price for Siliconera varies from about $1.44 to $2.12. The Pikachu donut is shaped like a PIkachu head including ears and is filled with whipped cream and covered in caramel-flavored chocolate. The Diglett donut resembles a round mochi donut, covered in chocolate crunch and custard cream, and features a cute Diglett donut protruding from the center, which is caramel cream.

On the simpler side, there's the Poke Ball donut, which resembles a standard round donut with a hole in the middle. It's covered in white chocolate and strawberry sugar to recreate the look of the iconic red and white Poke Ball. Finally, there are a couple of donuts loosely based on Pikachu and Diglett, which are basically yellow and brown donuts that are filled with custard and whipped cream. Pikachu's has a custard flavor while Diglett's has a caramel flavor. The event with these donuts will start on November 6th. It doesn't say when the event will end, but according to the Christmas-themed ads, they'll likely be available until at least December.

Pokemon Donut Collaborations are common, but not in the West

Mister Donut isn't the only donut chain to offer Pokemon donuts in the past. Krispy Kreme has also partnered with Pokemon before, but strangely, despite being an American company, they weren't available in the United States. This is probably disappointing for fans of the series, but as the years have gone by, there hasn't been a move to bring them stateside.

While Pokemon fans are out of luck in the US on the official, fan-made ones Pokemon donuts in the past to celebrate the iconic game series and its pocket monsters. While some hope such a collaboration will come to the west, creating your own might be the best option for now.
