Hazard's story and connection to the Phreaks
Although Hazard's debut trailer is short, it confirms previous hints that Hazard and Moira are connected through the vanadium isotope in Moira's lab. Originally discovered by the Venture's Wayfinder Society in Petra, it was given to Oasis University for study. After a series of events causes it to fall into Moira's hands, Hazard and the Phreaks break into the Department of Genetics to steal a sample of ferrofluid.
“Hazard and the Phreaks broke into the Department of Genetics to steal a sample of ferrofluid.
However, the theory that the Phreaks are mutants rebelling against Moira's experimentation doesn't seem to hold. Rather, Hazard enrolled in a prestigious school in Scotland despite his family facing various financial problems. After enlisting in the army in hopes of paying for his school fees, an Overwatch The jet is shot down and crashes into a building, resulting in Hazard being crushed under the debris. In an accident, he loses his legs and arm, which are subsequently replaced by cybernetics. Although Commander Morrison, better known as Soldier: 76, tries to reassure those affected, Hazard believes that the system has failed him and decides not to trust him anymore.
Later, the mechanic, part of a criminal group known as the Phreaks, modifies his cybernetic enhancements. Hazard joins the organization in search of a new family and is driven by his new goal of dismantling the old system. In Hazard's Hero Trailer, he saw vanadium injected into his cybernetics, which strengthened him enough to fight his way through security and escape with his friends.
Potential hazard capabilities
Given that Overwatch 2's Hazard will be playable during the trial weekend from November 22nd to November 25th, Blizzard is likely to reveal its set of abilities soon. From what players have seen so far, it is equipped with an arm cannon, a scythe, and amethysts, which are presumably used as projectiles. Some players have speculated that his ultimate may include the projectile rain seen around 1:43 in the trailer, which could take the form of an AoE ability that damages and knocks back those in its radius.
As a potential battle tank, it could share similarities with the other tanks on the list, with a jumping punch similar to Doomfist, melee abilities like Reinhardt, and a slow-firing shotgun like Roadhog's Scrap Gun. Based on the information, he seems to thrive in melee situations, meaning Tier 13 meta comps like Brigitte and Juno should combine well with him. Lucio's speed boost ability would also likely benefit Hazard immensely.
Hazard will be a permanent addition to the lineup beginning in Season 14. Players should expect to tweak Hazard's kit between his Hero Trial and the official launch of the hero shooter. Debuting on December 10, his arrival will coincide with Overwatch 26v6 playtests, the annual Winter Wonderland event, balance changes and several other exciting additions.
