Smart Pokemon a fan has developed an interesting theory that links Mimikya to Clefairy. Gen 7 Pokemon is already one of the most popular creatures in the franchise, thanks in large part to his heart-wrenching backstory and shy nature. Mimikyu's appearance is designed to look like a creature masquerading as Pikachu, but this theory suggests that Clefairy may have more of a connection with mon.
In tradition Pokemon Mimikyu is a lonely Ghost/Fairy-Type creature who wears an ill-fitting Pikachu disguise to make friends and attract them using Pikachu's popularity. However, it is said that anyone who looks under the costume and sees Mimikyu's true form will unleash a terrible curse upon themselves. There are still times when parts of Mimikyu's true form can be seen, such as the occasional shadow claw that emerges from under the disguise when the creature uses certain attacks.
Mimikyu officially debuts in Pokemon GO
The long-awaited Ghost/Fairy-type Pokémon Mimikyu is finally making its debut in Pokémon GO, and players can get theirs now.
Theory shared on Pokemon subreddit user CnidariaCoral suggests that Mimikyu's true form is Clefairy, or rather Clefairy Poke Doll. He was originally supposed to be Clefairy's mascot Pokemon franchise before Pikachu, with Red even having Clefairy as an appetizer in the original Pokemon manga. However, Pikachu replaced Clefairy as Ash Ketchum's Pokemon in the anime at the last second due to the belief that it would have a wider appeal and solidify Pikachu as a face. Pokemon instead of Clefairy.
User CnidariaCoral goes on to theorize that Mimikyu's jealousy and desire to look like Pikachu was born from the fact that Clefairy was replaced by Pikachu as Pokemonmascot. The Poke Doll item is most often depicted as a Clefairy doll in the games, which makes sense considering Clefairy was meant to be the original mascot. According to this theory, the Clefairy doll became so jealous that Pikachu dolls were selling out, even though they weren't, that she got her wits about her and dressed up as a Pikachu disguise to appeal to fans of the yellow Mouse Pokemon.
CnidariaCoral supports this theory with evidence that both Clefairy and Mimikyu are Fairy-Type, with Mimikyu even having the exclusive Let's Snuggle Forever Z-Move in Pokemon Sun and Moon. Since snuggling is something Poke Dolls would be used for, it's easy to see how a connection could be made there. First Sun and Moon players encounter Mimikyu's in an abandoned Thrifty Megamart on Ula'Ula Island for Acerola's Ghost-Type trial, which supports the idea that Mimikyu is the ghost of a forgotten stuffed animal that was once for sale.

Additionally, Clefairy and Clefable have another fan theory linking them to Ghost Type, with some fans believing that Gengar is meant to be Clefable's shadow, giving the Fairy-Type Pokémon a ghostly counterpart. As most commenters on CnidariaCoral's post point out, this theory, while interesting, probably won't be canon since Mimikyu already has a pretty well-documented lore. While this is just a fan theory, it does provide some surprisingly compelling evidence that should make fans think more about the connection between Mimikyu and Clefairy, who are already two of the most mysterious creatures in the franchise.
