The best team members to benefit from Hu Tao in Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact is a team game at its core. While powerhouses like Eula, who can function well without any proper teammates, certainly exist, the real stars of the game are those who can work together and utilize other great characters.

While Hu Tao
she's not that strong on her own, her ability to trigger Vape on each of her charged attacks makes her one of the strongest DPS characters in the game. However, you may need certain characters to see it in all its glory. Here are the characters you can use to create the ultimate Hu Tao team!

Candace

Candace
he has been a character without a proper team for a long time. While her elemental ability was a simple bounce with no synergy, her ability to hydro-infuse her teammates with her elemental blast allowed certain specialized teams such as Xingqiu
wearing on the field. However, she never saw the spotlight because the other characters just did her job better.

Surprisingly, Candace is one of Hu Tao's strongest teammates, but only if you have her constellation six. Her basic kit already helps Hu Tao, her Elemental Burst increases the Elemental DMG of normal attacks, and her fourth Ascension Passive further gives Hu Tao a damage boost based on Candace's HP. All she needs is an off-field application of Hydro, something her sixth constellation allows her to do.

Sucrose

Any DPS benefits from teammate Anemo as he is able to hold Viridescent Venerer, one of the strongest artifact sets in Genshin Impact. This set reduces enemy RES to Swirled and element Sucrose
she herself grants a DMG boost as well as bonus Elemental Mastery to her teammates when she uses her Elemental Burst.

However, using the Anemo character with Hu Tao can be tricky. Since Hu Tao can't use Pyro without cooldowning her skills, you need to use a second Pyro unit, e.g. Bennett
to do so. This forces you to only have one Hydro character in your party, making team building difficult. This also makes you lose Hydro Resonance, something that greatly benefits the Hu Tao HP-scaling kit.

Kazuha

Many believe Kaedehara Kazuha
to be the five-star version of sucrose. While there are certainly differences, this is mostly true of Hu Tao teams. Kazuha provides better buffs, giving you a boost to your Elemental DMG bonus while also allowing you to perform Double Swirls, increasing the DPS of both Hu Tao and your hydro teammate.

You can Double Swirl by Pyroing yourself with Bennet's Burst and applying Hydro to the enemy. This will improve both your Pyro and Hydro DPS, making Kazuha an extremely strong pick for teams that use Yelan in particular.

Kazuha has another advantage over sucrose. Where Sucrose pretty much needs Xingqiu to keep up with Hu Tao's quick Pyro application, Kazuha can pour Hydro into her Burst and spin Pyro at the same time, so even characters like Yelan or Furina have enough Hydro application to vape all of Hu's hits Tao.

Bennett

Hu Tao does not work well with healers. She gets a huge DMG bonus when she's below half HP, and losing this can greatly reduce her DPS. However, if you find yourself dying frequently, putting Bennett
on the team as a healer allows Hu Tao to have a healthy amount of health while offsetting the loss of DPS with Bennett's huge ATK buff.

If you have Bennett's Sixth Constellation, it becomes an even better support for Hu Tao, giving her a huge 15 percent Pyro DMG bonus. Bennett's earlier constellations also help and increase his ATK buff.

Layla

Since Hu Tao can't use a healer, you need a shield to play her comfortably. Unfortunately, few shield characters can provide Hu Tao with things other than survivability. Instead, certain characters such as Thomas
can make it difficult to hit proper elemental reactions with Hu Tao.

Layla
at baseline, is one of the strongest shields in the game. While she doesn't do much else from her kit, both her elemental skill and elemental burst can deal Cryo damage, so Hu Tao will occasionally have a melt instead of a Vape, dealing significantly more damage. If you have Laylin C4, it also gives a decent DMG bonus to Hu Tao's normal and charged attacks.

Xiangling

Xiangling
she can go against Hu Tao's vape-hungry playstyle, but she can still be an absurdly strong teammate due to her high personal damage and her synergy with Hu Tao's other teammates like Kazuha, Sacrose, and Bennett.

Xiangling can still be used on the Vape team, but you will need to remove Bennett, so there can be two Hydro characters to make Hu Tao and Xiangling Vape.

With Xiangling, you'll play as a Mono Pyro team and focus on raw damage output instead of Elemental Reactions. You don't have to worry about things like proper rotations, animation cancels, swirling the correct element, or even using Hu Tao's charged attacks, so this team can feel the most comfortable to play. While Hu Tao's personal DPS is much lower, Bennett and Anemo are able to buff both Xiangling and Hu Tao, allowing the duo to not only keep up with, but even outclass the other team at times.

Zhongli

We mentioned that Hu Tao needs shields and there is no shield character stronger than Zhongli. Such a strong shield will allow you to keep Hu Tao at low HP without worrying about dying. It also allows you to save stamina for her charged attacks since you don't have to run to avoid enemy attacks.

If you're confident you can dodge enemy hits without taking damage, other options are better DPS-wise.

Zhongli also lowers all Elemental RES for enemies, giving Hu Tao another huge buff. Additionally, you can slap a support artifact on it like Tenacity of the Millileth, Noblesse Oblige, or even Archaic Petra to make your Hu Tao deal even more damage.

Yelan

Hu Tao desperately needs off-field Hydro characters to vape her attacks while her elemental skill is active. While characters like Sangonomiya Kokomi
, Mona
and many others can because the app target that Hu Tao is currently targeting is much more consistent and reduces the chance of missing your Vape. as such Yelan
is one of the best supports for Hu Tao.

Additionally, Yelan is also one of the strongest off-field damage characters in Genshin, often rivaling your fielder's DPS. It also provides an added DMG bonus to Hu Tao while her Burst is running and benefits from other Hu Tao supports such as Zhongli's versatile Elemental RES shred and Xingqiu Hydro shred.

Xingqiu

Xingqiu
is probably one of the best characters in Genshin Impact for any team that needs a Hydro unit. His Hydro application is the fastest in the game and allows him to apply enough element to keep up with his team's needs even without a second hydro unit. It also gives you interrupt resistance and huge RES DMG.

Xingqiu looks like he was made for Hu Tao. Interrupt resistance and DMG RES help Hu Tao survive without a shield, and his Hydro is enough to keep up with Hu Tao's Pyro. In addition, it also increases Yelan's DMG if on the team by reducing enemy Hydro RES, while allowing you to use Hydro RES to further increase both Yelan and Hu Tao's DPS.
