Key things
- Zoan Devil Fruits in One Piece allow animals to transform and increase in strength.
- Some Zoan Devil Fruits in the series lack clear distinctions or precise powers.
- Various characters in One Piece use Zoan Devil Fruits in unique ways.
Zoan Devil Fruits are one of the three basic variants appearing in One piece series. They are shown to allow their user to transform into an animal or human/animal hybrid in addition to their standard appearance. This tends to allow the user to gain a boost in physical strength and gain potentially desirable traits from the animal associated with their Devil Fruit.

One Piece: All known ancient Zoan Devil Fruits
Ancient Zoan devil fruits are among the most unique in One Piece. Here's what we know about all the ones revealed so far.
The vast majority of Devil Fruits shown have a name that identifies the exact form of their user. Unfortunately, not every Zoan Devil Fruit has been granted such distinction, and there are currently several users whose exact powers are unclear beyond what little is shown about them.
6 Onigumo devil fruit
Allows Onigumo to turn into a spider
- Debut: Chapter 420 (manga), Episode 302 (anime)
Vice Admiral Onigumo was one of the five sent for the Buster Call on Enies Lobby. He is a firm believer in Absolute Justice, and sabers seem to be his weapon of choice. His Devil Fruit allows him to transform into a spider, though the exact species, if any in particular, that he comes from is unclear.
Onigumo tends to primarily use this ability to wield six other swords in combat, in addition to a pair in each of his actual arms. This is somewhat similar to the sword styles of Hatchan and Hyouzou, who use their octopus-like physiology to wield other swords. Additional appendages appear to protrude from his hair, and this appears to be the extent to which he utilizes his Devil Fruit abilities. He doesn't seem to care about any other potential spider powers like web use and potential toxicity if he's actually capable of both.
5 Epoid's Devil Fruit
Allows Epoid to transform into a caterpillar
- Debut: Chapter 553 (manga), Episode 467 (anime)
Epoida is a subordinate captain of the Whitebeard Pirates who historically sailed with a crew before starting his own. The exact extent of his power remains unknown, but he is likely quite powerful as one of Whitebeard's subordinate captains, some of whom are shown to be on par with vice admirals or collectively destroy pacifists.
Epoida is notably the only identified Devil Fruit user among the subordinate captains. His unnamed Devil Fruit allows him to transform into a caterpillar, but it's unclear exactly how this affects his fighting skills (if it does at all). His body seems to split up much like the pattern on his striped shirt in hybrid form. It is unknown if he can transform from his base form into a butterfly. Although if he did, maybe it would be similar to Baron Tamago, who tends to go between three forms in the egg-to-chicken cycle. It is likely that this aspect, like the Epoid, will remain unexplored, due to its already limited importance in the series.
4 Dalmatian devil fruit
Allows the Dalmatian to turn into a dog
- Debut: Chapter 553 (manga), Episode 462 (anime)
The Dalmatian is a vice admiral who, as his name suggests, has a devil fruit that seems to have turned him into an iconic dog breed. According to Kennel ClubDalmatians are “capable of great endurance and decent speed.” While the Dalmatian's exact physical abilities have yet to be thoroughly measured, these qualities are likely needed to become a Vice Admiral. The Dalmatian is almost always depicted in its hybrid form, with its canine and human features showing in different parts of its face.

Zoan Devil Fruits give their users amazing abilities. These are the strongest ones introduced so far.
Instead of relying on a weapon, the Dalmatian trained in Rokushki and physically enhanced his body to the point where he was even able to pierce Luffy's skin. In this regard, he is similar to various CP0 members who used Rokushki in combination with their Zoan forms. It's unclear how he compares physically to the likes of Rob Lucci, but as a Vice Admiral he probably has a decent amount of power behind his title.
3 Stussy's Devil Fruit
Turns Stussy into a vampire bat (?)
- Debut: Chapter 860 (manga), Episode 830 (anime)
Stussy is a clone of Miss Buckingham Stussy, a somewhat older pirate who once knew Whitebeard and was supposedly her lover. She was a product of MADS, an illegal research institute consisting of Vegapunk and other prominent scientists. Acting as a mole for Vegapunk, Stussy became an undercover agent of Cipher Pol 0 for over a decade without arousing suspicion.
During the Egghead Arc, she betrayed Lucci and Kaku when they tried to fight Vegapunk, growing wings and sucking blood to take out her fellow agents. This is likely a Devil Fruit product, although the exact logistics are unclear. Notably, this Devil Fruit, despite not appearing to be awakened, can knock out users who have awakened their Devil Fruits, though it is unclear if this is a testament to Stussy's power or the Devil Fruit itself. It could be either standard or mythic Zoan, due to the existence of real vampire bats and the fictional nature of vampires. In some ways it has parallels with Patrick Redfield's Devil Fruit One Piece: Unlimited World Redbut he is not shown to have his exact powers, which puts him squarely in the Mythical category.
2 Pomsky
Turns a Pomsky into a sea otter
- Debut: Chapter 1089 (manga)
This Vice Admiral debuted in the recently concluded Egghead Arc, as one of the nine involved in the event known as the Egghead Incident. Even compared to some of the other Vice Admirals, relatively little is known about him, aside from his somewhat fascinating Devil Fruit.

Despite their relative rarity, merfolk in One Piece are not to be trifled with, and several of them are impressively powerful.
Pomsky's unnamed Devil Fruit allows him to transform into a sea otter. However, the natural nature of Devil Fruits limits the Pomsky in one of the mammal's primary assets: the ability to effectively navigate water. Although sea otters are capable of walking on land, many of their features are fundamentally geared towards an aquatic existence. However, Pomsky went all out on the water theme, using a maul with a shell-shaped hammer as his primary weapon.
1 Five elders
Mythical Zoan Chimera
- Debut Chapter 233 (manga), Episode 151 (anime)
These semi-immortal oligarchs are the public faces of Imu, the true ruler of the world. Each of them is in charge of a certain position for which he is declared a “Warrior God”, such as justice, finance or agriculture. Even though one of them was killed and replaced, there are still many things fans don't know about these individuals, including the names of their supposed Devil Fruits. Each one appears to be a somewhat esoteric mythic Zoan, the rarest known variant of the Devil Fruit.
The relevant forms are Itsumade (Marcus Mars); the monstrous bird, Fengxi (Topman Warcury); the demonic boar, Bakotsu (Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro); skeleton horse, sandworm (shepherd Ju Peter); a gigantic worm capable of devouring everything and Gyuki (Jaygarcia Saturn); a bizarre hybrid of a bull and a spider. Each of them also appears to be “awakened”. With Saturn's execution, it's unclear what kind of devil fruit the newest elder, Figarland Garling, possesses, or if he even has any.
