Higuruma is a powerful wizard. His potential could put him on the level of Gojo in JJK.
Of course, given that JJK has now ended, fans have to accept that this manga probably won't get a sequel. But that certainly does not mean that it cannot continue in other ways. Usually even after the story ends, the author tends to drop a little spin-off or even a one-shot. JJK it desperately needs a pair, especially since there's a lot of unexplored material in the story that fans need more context on.
Why Jujutsu Kaisen might continue through spin-offs
- Jujutsu Kaisen still has great potential
- Fans need to know the answers to JJK's many mysteries
Jujutsu Kaisen ended earlier this year, and since then fans haven't heard anything from the author about his next work. The only thing fans know is that Gege isn't done with Jump yet. At some point later, she will resume work at the magazine, but for now she is focused on resting. This is especially true as Gege suffered from many health complications during the serialization JJKand recently even had surgery to remove his appendix. Even more than that he also had many stress related issues which only further aggravated the problems he was suffering from.
Please look forward to Sensei's next work at Jump! – the editor
All the affairs of the author also greatly influenced the ending, as can be seen. The end of JJK is considered rushed by many fans, and rightly so. But considering the issues the author dealt with during the serialization of the manga, it's not hard to see why. Because JJK ended in a specific way, fans know the potential for a sequel is definitely there. In fact, Gege can even continue his story with a sequel and a second volume and definitely deliver a fantastic story. But it's highly likely that when the author returns to Jump, he'll continue with a brand new manga since he's still very young and hasn't dropped any hints for a sequel. JJK with a proper continuation.
This is sad for the fans, but at the same time there is a possibility that Gege will continue JJK through one-shots and side stories. For example, even Kishimoto, after closing Naruto series, made a 10-chapter side manga around Sarada Uchiha and her origin. He recently did a one-shot manga that dealt with the life of Minato Namikaze and showcased the creation of the famous Rasengan technique. It's not uncommon for writers to do one-offs or spin-offs. They are generally considered easier to handle because they can be brief, consisting of just two or three chapters, or they can be one-off, which would be a separate chapter. They don't add any stress to the author and they can simply handle them at their own pace, making it an exciting project, much more so than working around Jump's hectic schedule. JJK, a story that has a lot of untapped potential, as such will likely continue through one-shots and spin-offs.
Why fans need to see Heian era battles
The Heian era is what fans want to see the most
When it comes to future JJK one-shots, there is one particular event that fans are desperate to see and that is the Heian Era flashback. As fans know, the Heian era was when Sukuna, the King of Curses, was born. Sukuna dominated the era and rose to the very top and was called the King of Curses.
In fact, wizards from all over the world came together and tested their skills against Sukuna. This also allowed them to grow stronger and this further increased the general level of Heian era wizards. Kenjaku also existed during this time and his bond with Sukuna is proof of that. Unfortunately, despite this ruthless era with great potential, fans hardly ever saw anything of it.
Sukuna was the strongest in the Heian era! – the narrator
Fans expected a flashback to the Heian era within the manga itself, but it never came, and in many ways it was unnecessary to move the plot forward. But that doesn't mean fans wouldn't love a flashback to that particular part of the story, and that Gege couldn't use it to give JJK more depth. Now that the series is over, fans can only hope for a flashback through a one-shot or spin-off where Sukuna takes center stage. Fans could finally see how Sukuna was born, why he took the path he did, how he met and how he got to the very top. Fans would also get to see how Sukuna eventually turned into a cursed object and what exactly his thought process was when he did so.

Jujutsu Kaisen: The Future of the Series Explained
JJK still has a lot to explore in his story. Does this manga have a future?
Fans would see Kenjak and Sukuna meet for the first time and at the same time, perhaps most importantly, see who taught Sukuna the meaning of love. Sukuna makes it clear in the last chapter of JJK that he had two paths to be exact and that he chose the hate part and the survival part. It would be interesting to see what the other path was and why Sukuna didn't take it. All things considered, a Heian era flashback would add so much more to Sukun that he could become one of the best characters in anime and manga as a whole. It would also showcase the level of wizards of the Heian era.
Will JJK ever show fans the Heian era?
Fans can only hope for a side story
The question of whether or not fans will ever get to see this flashback cannot be answered. It all depends on the author. At the very least, fans can say that there is a possibility that it could be delivered. An author can easily write a one-shot where a character takes center stage, or they can even go on to write spin-offs that span multiple chapters. What's more, the author can even make a movie, providing the plot of the story and notes to the staff, who can then proceed to bring it to life. There are many ways the Heian era can be brought to life, and fans can only hope that the author goes ahead and does it at some point.
The final chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, JJK 271, was finally released on September 29, 2024. Fans can read the series on Manga Plus and Shonen Jump apps.
