Magic: The Gathering was marred by a few controversies in the second half of 2024, between Commander bans and the debacle that followed, and the poorly received launch of Marvel Secret Lair drops, but things are likely to pick up early next year. While 2025 may not be entirely positive for the game, mainly because Magic: The Gathering'S Universes Beyond is legal by default, and the fact that this decision was met with backlash has to be a good shift. This is thanks to the re-release of a popular set, the launch of a brand new expansion and a new type of cards that could take the community by storm.

There will be a lot going on Magic: The Gathering a total of six standard-legal sets will be released next year, possibly alongside other Eternal releases such as pre-made Commander packs. In addition, January will continue the tradition of remastered sets, all while introducing new “headliner” cards. Between Magic: The Gatheringit is big Final Fantasy set and the new Universes Beyond release schedule, including the Spider-Man expansion, will likely see many newbies to the game, so Wizards of the Coast needs to start 2025 off on the right foot.

MTG Innistrad Remastered will launch on January 24, 2025

This is a special set for many reasons, not the least of which is the fact that the Innistrad is one of the most popular planes in the world Magic: The Gatheringthe whole history. Innistrad Remastered will feature a new card type that will likely appear in every release in 2025, and these are the new main cards.

Innistrad Remastered will include plenty of valuable reprints such as Liliana of the Veil and Meathook Massacre.

What to expect from Magic cards: The Gathering's Headliner Card in 2025

MTGThe new title cards are serialized from 1 to 500, meaning there will only be 500 copies of this particular card and there will only be a print for each set of main stars. In the case of Innistrad Remastered, the Edgar Markov reprint will be the headliner, which is an expensive card in itself and a good one to pull out, at around $70. However, the main version of Edgar Markov will probably become one of them Magic: The Gathering's most valuable card given that only 500 copies will be printed and it will be very rare to pull off.

Magic: The Gathering's Death Race Set releases on February 14, 2025

While it may seem hard to beat the reprints of many popular Innistrad cards, Magic: The GatheringThe new Aetherdrift expansion will be right around the corner, kicking off 2025 in style as the first standard legal set of the year. Defined by MTGFrom Mark Rosewater, this set will take place over three different levels and will feature ten teams all competing in a deadly race for the ultimate prize – the Aetherspark.

Based on the art shown so far, Aetherdrift will most likely take place in Kaladesh and Amonkhet, with the third plane still up in the air since it was never the main location of any expansion.

In addition to Aetherdrift with this new triplanar mortal race concept, it will also have its own main card which is The Aetherspark itself. This card seems to be MTG Planeswalker itself based on art, but details have yet to be confirmed. Still, the expansion seems to be full of favorite characters and locations, so it could be a great release for longtime fans.
