Legend of Zelda Fan Creates Hylian Shield in Real Life
Fan Zelda franchise called MegaSeneca has shared their reconstruction of the iconic Hylian Shield, which they built from craft EVA foam. The shield is a remake of the original with the iconic Hylian Crest and Triforce on the front. Although it's made from a relatively light and moldable foam, the shield strongly resembles real metal, and even the inside of the shield has been carefully crafted with faux wood that looks like it's straight out of the game. Fans especially appreciated the level of detail the shield was given and how MegaSeneca made something built from foam to look like a real battle-ready piece.

Players asked for more information about the build, which MegaSeneca shed some light on. MegaSeneca explained that it took them about two weeks to build, although they split the time between other projects and work. Plus, while they don't have footage of the base being built, they later shared a video demonstrating how they finished it, with a combination of painting, airbrushing and sanding. The shield in motion is probably even more impressive as it fully reveals the amazingly realistic shine of the “metal”.
Game fans have found all sorts of ways to recreate their favorite weapons, shields and tools from the games over the years, with many building game props with 3D printers. Others choose to use foam like MegaSeneca, while some have gone so far as to actually use blacksmithing skills to create actual functional pieces of armor, weapons and shields. Official replicas of the Hylian Shield have also been produced, but creating an item from scratch probably gives the craftsman a sense of satisfaction that the purchased version simply cannot match.

At this point, it remains to be seen what the series will do with the Hylian Shield in the future Zelda games. Rumors and leaks suggested that an Ocarina of Time A remake is in the works which would no doubt include the shield as that is where the design comes from. However, that future is possible Zelda games could leave the shield, at least temporarily. The Zelda the series has gone through several shakeups over the years that have changed the look of the world and the tools at Link's disposal, so anything is possible. However, for many fans, the Hylian Shield is likely to remain one of the franchise's most beloved and recognizable creations.
