The Resident Evil the franchise is home to more than its fair share of spin-offs, with a total of 16 released since the series' debut in 1996. Unfortunately, these spin-offs have often not performed as well as their main counterparts. Although games like Resident Evil: Revelations and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles earned decent reviews, a much larger part Resident Evil the spin-offs were watched by critics and fans alike.
Bad Resident Evil spin-offs usually share a key point of criticism in that they stray too far from the core elements of the franchise that fans enjoy. That was certainly the case in 2016 Resident Evil: Umbrella Corpsone of the most powerful spin-offs of the franchise. But even Umbrella Corps he wasn't entirely without interesting ideas, and with a few major changes, his new version could work.
Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps could do with a big change
Umbrella Corps was a panned spin-off
Released in June 2016 and coming in between Resident Evil: Revelations 2 and Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps may be the most infamous spin-off in the long history of the horror franchise. One of Capcom's many failed attempts to give Resident Evil multiplayer spin series, Umbrella Corps was an incredibly basic competitive shooter that saw players fight their way through lifeless maps based on some of the series' most iconic locations.
Umbrella Corps it's at a disastrous 38 on Metacritic for the PlayStation 4 version and an even lower 36 for the PC port. Highest score out of 55 reviews on Metacritic gives Umbrella Corps 61 and a whopping 78% of reviews rate it below 50. Lack of content, significant depth, stiff gun control, unbalanced weapons, little to no meta progression, and the overall lack of polish and presentation expected of a AAA game were all common criticisms Umbrella Corps.
The Umbrella Corps concept could work in a new game environment
But despite its disappointing gameplay and presentation, the premise behind Umbrella Corps was not inherently bad. Set 13 years after the fall of the titular shady pharmaceutical company, Umbrella Corps players take control of a mercenary hired by one of 10 organizations trying to find the remaining research of Umbrella. It's a simple premise, but it makes a lot of sense Resident Eviltimeline and lore and it's one that might be worth another try.
Capcom Resident Evil the remakes have been some of the most popular entries in the franchise, and for fans who only got into the series with the remakes, the timeline now has some pretty big gaps. It might be fun to see Umbrella Corps' assumption to return for the future Resident Evil entry, filling in the blanks for new players about the fall of Umbrella and the aftermath.
Light Rifle Shooter
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
also briefly touches on the fall of Umbrella, which would be another good choice for a spin-off reimagining.
New of course Umbrella Corps In order for the game to succeed, it would have to make several major changes, the first and most important of which would be the removal of multiplayer. Instead, reworked Umbrella Corps The game could give players a short 4-6 hour single player campaign that sees them play as a mercenary hunting down Umbrella's latest research, a task that will bring them face to face with long-abandoned bio-organic weapons.
