With the official launch Satisfactorylevel 9 has been added to the game, featuring a variety of milestones, machines, buildings, and tools centered around SAM, or Strange Alien Matter. When used, this material allows you to store items in the cloud, convert resources to other resources, teleport, and much more.



While the SAM scan option is unlocked at level 9, you can actually access this resource much earlier since the nodes are present from the first time you start a new game. Below we look at the SAM nodes closest to each of the four starting locations so you can get a head start with this technology.

Grass Plains SAM Node

Grass Plains is one of the best starting locations for a nearby SAM, with a normal node located in two-pillar mountains near. This node is located in a V-shaped cave under an inverted mountain formation.

There are quite a few of them poison-spewing plants in this cave, so take a gas mask to stay alive. The node is also guarded and the big Stingerso be prepared to fight when you descend into the cave. Make sure you save your way back too!

Rocky Desert SAM node

This SAM node is located in a small open area below a rock formation in pillar-bridge area from the Rocky Desert. There are several of them poisonous plants and Hatchery nest in the area, so be careful before running right in.


Northern Forest SAM node

This SAM node is located in a cave whose entrance can be found near two waterfalls flowing into a large lake in the northern forest. Head into the cave and then use a Nobel blow up the destructible rocks to reveal the SAM node in the smaller cave below. There is also a Stinger in the first cave, so grab it before using your Nobels.

Dune desert SAM node

This node is located in the northern part of the Duna desert. On a rock formation near a riverthere is a small a crevice filled with destructible rocks. Blow them up with the Nobelisk, then head into the opening that leads to the cave. In this cave, fight against Stingersthen use another Nobelisk to access the SAM node.
