Wizards of the Coast is delaying a new spell: the Gathering product

Wizards of the Coast has confirmed that some of its latest Magic: The Gathering products will be delayed due to manufacturing defect. The massively popular trading card game has ramped up its output with a wide range of highly anticipated new expansions launching throughout the year. 2025 saw Magic: The Gathering truly embraces its “Universes Beyond” line of crossovers, bringing everything from Final Fantasy on Spider-Man and others. However, now some of the new products are now set to release a bit later than expected.

One of the main ways to bring exclusive new cards to Wizards of the Coast Magic: The Gathering goes through frequent “Secret Lair” game crashes. Secret Lairs serve as a small curated collection of cards that players can pick up from the Secret Lair store, usually containing reprints of older cards with new artwork. Secret Lairs often gave Magic: The Gathering a way to bring in new minor crossovers like the recent “PlayStation superdrop” that adds popular franchises like Horizon and God of War. Wizards of the Coast is now sharing some unfortunate news about their Secret Lair series.

Magic: The Gathering is delaying some Secret Lair products

Wizards of the Coast released an official announcement on Friday about some of their new Secret Lair products. As part of the “Secret Lair Update” released to the Clerk Magic: The Gathering On the website, the developer revealed that some of its recent Secret Lair items will be delayed in production based on “inconsistencies with the raw material component”. Wizards of the Coast is giving fans options if their order is affected by the delay, offering refunds or adjustments to affected customers. Wizards of the Coast did not specify which ones Magic Secret Lairs are affected by lag.

The production delay at Wizards of the Coast comes as the developer recently expanded its Secret Lairs with a slew of new products. Alongside the previously mentioned PlayStation Secret Lairs, the developer announced new collaborations with pop culture icons such as Jaws, Furbyand Iron Maiden among several others. Magic: The GatheringSecret Lair's long line of products even features an unexpected crossover with Officefeaturing several cards based on the beloved Dwight Schrute character.

Magic: The GatheringThe litany of crossovers doesn't end with Secret Lair, with plenty more collaborations planned for the rest of the year. The final standard-legal set of 2025 will feature the game's third full crossover expansion that year, with Nickelodeon Avatar The Last Airbender is added to Magic: The Gathering. The Final Fantasy The collaboration will also get even more content, and new holiday products will add new promo cards later this year. Magic: The Gathering is going all-in on its crossovers and a lot of fan media properties are coming into the card game.
